Sojourners, Jim Wallis, and God’s Politics

Sojourners is one of my regular and favourite reads. Anyone interested in where faith meets politics meets culture needs to read this magazine and website. The man behind the mission is Jim Wallis, author of God’s Politics:
Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn’t Get It
, a welcome voice of reason, compassion and intelligence to stand against the prevailing political thought that God is a Republican.

Conservatives rally against Jean Schmidt

A recent press release by a conservative PAC in Cincinnati is urging conservatives and republicans to not vote for Jean Schmidt in Tuesday’s special election. Schmidt’s election chances have taken several surprising hits recently in what should be a conservative stronghold in Cincinnati and southwestern Ohio. John Glenn’s endorsement of her opponent Paul Hackett as well as those of the Cincy Post and Dayton Daily News have shown a united opposition to Schmidt’s campaign. Recent remarks denigrating Paul Hackett’s military service in Iraq have also not helped Ms. Schmidt’s campaign in an election where she needs to gather all the friends she can find. The fact that COAST, a conservative organization, is encouraging fellow conservatives to not vote for Schmidt, but rather to wait for a better conservative candidate in the next election suggests the Schmidt campaign may have a rough day on August 2nd.

Fire Karl Rove Slogan Contest

Check out MoveOn.org’s slogan contest to combat the cover-up operation being mounted to protect Karl Rove. Between the facts surrounding this scandal and the Downing Street memo, is there any reasonable excuse why there is no mass call for employment termination, criminal investigation and/or impeachment of certain corrupt political figures?

Jean Schmidt’s Campaign Advisor attacks Marine challenger’s military service

It amazes me that politicians with no military service or with questionable service records have the audacity to criticize the service of those challenging them politically, simply because they are Democrats. I think this defines the concept of un-patriotic and un-American political under-handedness. They proudly carry the flag for the brave men and women serving our country militarily until those same veterans come home and stand against them politically. This is an outrageous insult and I hope that conservatives and republicans in Ohio’s 2nd District stand against the Schmidt Campaign for this dishonorable rhetoric.

If you are capable of voting or volunteering for the Paul Hackett campaign, please do so quickly as this weekend will be critical in securing next Tuesday’s election. If you would like to donate to Paul’s campaign, please help him stand against these disgusting media attacks.

Nickel Creek - Why Should the Fire Die?

Grammy award winning Nickel Creek has done it again with a stellar 14 track gem called Why Should the Fire Die?. As usual, the musicianship is excellent; would-be guitarists and mandolinists will be rewinding and pausing Sean and Chris’ licks for weeks. The musicality and sheer brilliance of the trio’s work always leaves me surprised and refreshed. Buy this record now! and call your radio station and CMT to make sure they are playing it. For the lucky few ( oh how I wish i was one of them ) they are playing a limited series of shows across the country where they perform the album in its entirety, track 1 to track 14. wow.
