Today I got a call from 1-800-782-1758 informing me that they were NCO Financial Systems, they were collecting a debt, and to call Ms. Castro back at that number. They did not state any information such as an account number or whom they were attempting to reach. I called, waited on hold for over ten minutes, gave up, and tried the number on their bogus "Consumer Help Unit" http://www.consumerhelpunit.org/ (800) 724-2584 I gave the representative there our phone number, and she said there was no account listed for it. So I called the original number once again, and after waiting on hold for half an hour, finally reached someone who told me the debt was in my husband's (fairly common) name, and that it was owed to the State of Maryland for tuition. My husband has never been to Maryland or attended college, so I informed her this was a case of mistaken identity. She insisted that payments had been made on the account from someone at our phone number. When I told her this was impossible, she rudely said "okay, I'll remove it" and hung up on me. We'll see what happens. My husband works nights and needs his sleep, so unsolicited phone calls are a huge nuisance for us. I'm keeping records of everything in case we run into trouble with them.

I posted about three months ago that I had no problem working with NCO. I set up a payment arrangement for $150 a month, and was told that all recurring fees and charges would be suspended during this time. I should have gotten it in writing. $150 payment per month would have been great, however, when they're charging $129 a month in fees, how is anyone supposed to pay anything off? Back in December, I sent a certified letter regarding calling me at work - it is my work number, they cannot call me here, etc. The calls stopped until today. "Wally" advised me (ever so kindly) that my account was past due, and would I like to make a payment of $500 today. I informed him that I would not, and let him have it as to why. I also reminded him "You do realize I can take further action, don't you? I have proof of a certified letter sent asking you to remove my work number from my account. You are NOT allowed to call me here." I'm lucky - I get a bonus in April and will be using the whole thing to pay it off (there goes vacation, but hey, I guess I'm now a responsible adult). But honestly - with "payment arrangements" like this, how is anyone supposed to get anything paid off? It IS my fault - I realize that. I was stupid in college and made stupid financial decisions. But I've paid off Macy's, Neiman Marcus, and CitiCard... all of which were happy to work with me, and set up LEGITIMATE payment arrangements. If you enter into any kind of arrangement with these jerks, get it in writing. I'm sorry I didn't.

I'm back w/ more news. Starting sending John A. and the compliance div.
emails on a daily basis; threatening harrassment suits and each call means another complaint which means more penalties and/or fines. At day 11,
got an email from DINA at NCO. She stated calls would stop and my # would be removed from list. Its been about a week. No calls. I titled every email "CEASE ORDER #1".....changed number every day and sent it. Also,
for Verizon users; you can go on-line and block those numbers. Did that as
well. Good Luck.

Thought I should add to this list of comments given that it sounds as if these are really sleazy people.

My robocalls started a few days ago from 800.711.0454.

I haven't carried any debt at all for many years, and never had problems when I did. I suspect they are mistakenly looking for some woman at this number that some debt collector called for years ago now. Don't remember her name, but never heard of her.

These people are eating my cell minutes, in addition to generally being an irritant. I actually tried to call them back to advise them of their error, but placed on perpetual hold and no voice mail option that works. Damned if I would give them a single digit from my SSN! That's nuts.

If it keeps up, I will sent certified letter to their corporate counsel.

These #'s are NCO /NCO affiliates
I have been dealing with these thugs since 2002.. I have gotten them stopped a few times only to have them buy a batch of new companies and start up again. Looks to me like they are getting around the C&D letters by calling new companies 'affiliates' that they (subconstract) services to. Sure..

More down and destitute. They took my tax return last week. I do owe for student loans which I am being garnished but when I called several numbers at the american loan association they gave me a number at NCO. After being referred to many other numbers later, they couldn't help me. I called the last number and ofcourse no answer, not even a machine for a message. They say I have to make payment arrangements but how can I when I can't get in touch with them? I don't think they want to be contacted.

if this bill is under ur name and ss# it is idtheft and you need to go to www.ftc.gov/idtheft, and you can get all the details of how to get that straightened out. If it not under your ss# and just your name, they are looking for someone with the same name, but not you, send a cease and desist letter, or just ignore it.

holy crap, what's with the crazy mudslinging back and forth in the comments? if paypay is still (or ever has been) a legitimate company, they seriously need to clean up their act. based on the article, comments, and my personal experience though, i would stay far away from them.

companies should take note from president obama's mistake of getting mired down in the "common man's" affairs when he got involved with the arrest of his friend in cambridge...and not respond to accusations on blogs or elsewhere. if you have something to say to your customers, do it through a press release or on your web site.

This NCO Financial called my wife cp number twice and leave a message to call the number 877-745-0426 with a code number. However, my caller ID shows different number and that was 800-240-0381. I called that number and the guy who answer my call is asking my name and I did not give it to him instead I said go fxck your Mom and he hang up. These people deserve that kind of statement because they are not suppose to work with these kind of company like NCO Financial.

Will have to see if I get anymore calls before I start writing letters et.

So i recently started to get calls from them! I owe nothing and i never have! They called me at least 4 times a week! I finally called back and we figured out that they were not looking for me or anyone in my household and he said he deleted the number from the system!
That was last week! Today as early as 8 am (when they are legally allowed to call you) they called me 3 times in a row and leaving me a message on the answering machine! It was the same guy i was supposed to call! I called back and gave him a piece of my mind! I told him if they ever call me again i would go further steps since im not the person they were looking for! He told me he took me of the list! (YET again lets see how long thats going to last)
I filed a complained today and tomorrow ill sent out the cease letter!
The number they have been calling from is OuT of Area but its 1 800 761 4990, 1 800 418 8848 and 1 800 268 9806!
Im sick of it! I would understand if they would call for me or my husband but thats not the case!

NCO is a stupid, crappy, f'd company, no doubt about it. I think the best thing is to not do business with the company that sold your debt to NCO. In my case, it was Bank of America who sold my debt to this retarded, pathetic company so I no longer do any kind of business with B of A.

I received a call stating it was about a debt collection- at work number. I have no outstanding debts- This comment reminded me of a sprint bill we contested then paid back in 2000- i wonder if its that- but I am not enticed to call- will just send a stop call letter- why don't they ever mail info?

Unpaid student loans are never erased from a credit history (unlike other debt.) So, if you owe money...you owe money.

Past 5 numbers to call my home, from NCO:
866-869-3502 (caller ID identifies caller as National Recovery System)
636-530-7985 (caller ID identifies caller as NARS)
918-280-0811 (caller ID identifies caller as NCO Customer MG)
Unknown name / number, privatename/ number, but answering the phone reveals this to be an NCO representative.
I think NCO circumvents US laws by outsourcing these calls through its Jamaica and Puerto Rico offices. Some of the representatives definitely have non-American accents, and can barely speak grammatical English. They can't read, and they certainly can't use computers, based on my experience in dealing with them.

I receive calls from the worlds most friendly freaking company twice a day. I usually ignore them. Today they called me at 8:00am. I am sorry but, do not call me at 8 in the morning asking for money. I get the same prerecorded message to call them back at 800-511-8670 so I did. The lady who answered never gave me her name. She gave me the attempt to collect speech and asked for me. I said I understand that I owe some money, but calling me at 8am especially when I have a 2 yr old is not okay. She said well you owe us money. I do Not owe NCO anything, I owe a college. I continued to say that I am not employeed right now so I cannot make the payment. This B*___ says so your refusing to pay the debt and we will put that on your credit report. I said I am not refusing. I just am unable, and I'd appreciate it if you could call later in the day. She said again, refusal to pay, and ma'am we will call anytime until this debt is paid. At that point I lost it, and cussed her out.

These people are so rude! I redpect people for doing their jobs, and I try to be nice. It is my debt to pay, but I can only take so much. If you want me to pay you you need to be nice to me, ya know. I will be sending the C&D letter Monday. I actually hope they call after that. I would Love for them to pay me, and my debt..Ha!

I just signed up for phone service and have been getting calls from these idiots. I never answer and they never leave messages. 443-550-7955 comes up on caller id.
All my bills are current, so they must be looking for a previous person to that number.

Okay, this morning I was woken up to the wonderful people at NCO Financial Systems Incorporated stating they're a debt collection company and that they needed to speak to 'me' about an important matter, collect information, and to collect a debt. To call someone back at 1-800-303-1043.

Now to my knowledge I haven't had so much as a late payment on ANY account in the last 5 years. I checked my credit report, and there's NOTHING in collections, and NO late or missed payments currently.

I do know that my last run-in with NCO Financial was in 2002 when I cancelled my Sprint cellphone (which was already paid to Sprint Directly).

The starting balance in 2001 was 12 dollars. In 2002, that price went up to 98 dollars. Told them to stop calling me, and that I was paid up already. I then used the number they called me on into a data line for 8 years due to their harassment.

Now they're calling me at my new home. Since they don't say WHO they're looking for, and I KNOW I have no outstanding debts, I'm figuring they're either looking for someone else, OR they must be desperate trying to collect on an initial debt of 12 dollars from 10 years ago.

I'm picking up next time and chewing some ass.

NCO calls my home repeatedly, wanting to speak to my ex-wife, from whom I've been divorced for 17 years. I have told them repeatedly not to call here, I don't have any information on her whereabouts. They say they will update their info and not call anymore; a few weeks will go by, and then the calls start again. I sent a certified, cease-and- desist letter to their Pennsylvania office on 2/23/10. They received it today (2/25/10). Hopefully the calls will stop. The last time they called, and were told not to call here again, I gave them a number to call, told the caller to explain themselves to whoever answered. The number was for our county Sheriff's Department. :-)
