In case you are getting calls from the wonderful people at NCO Financial Systems. You should read some messages people have posted about this company. Apart from having to pay $1.5 million to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that it violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), there are also many many claims of state and federal violations of legislation like the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).
The company purchases old debt from people like your cellphone provider, hospitals and the government for pennies on the dollar and then tries to collect it. You may have even already paid the bill, like I had, but that is really a minor irrelevant point. The reality is, much if not most of this debt is so old noone has any obligation to repay any of it, least of all not to NCO. Many people have been harassed for debt belonging to neighbors, relatives, old residents of the same address, and co-workers. Don’t pay NCO a penny.
If you receive letters or phone calls from NCO or phone numbers like

800-383-4761 or 866-360-9791 you should read this page about the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. If NCO does anything wrong with you, you could be entitled to $1000 per infraction and they may have to pay your lawyer and possibly even your debt.
To halt their “contact”, send NCO a certified, return-receipt cease and desist letter (they throw away all faxes and non-certified letters). A sample letter might read (though, you must seek real legal advice, which I’m not):
This is to advise you that pursuant to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (”FDCPA”) 15 USC 1692c(c), you are hereby notified to immediately terminate any contact with me, or any members of my family or household, regarding any matter concerning the collection of a debt you allege is owed to your company or to your principal/customer/client. This notice shall include, but is not limited to written correspondence, as well as telephonic communication. This letter also verifies that I live at the address above, therefore, any further locator attempts would be a violation of the FDCPA.
Their address is:

Is NCO calling you? Do you have a new NCO phone number or information? Please leave a comment and share it with the rest of us. Thanks!
NCO may or may not report your debt dispute with them on your credit report. It is important to make sure that if NCO puts anything on your credit report, all of the information is accurate, such as date of debt, last activity on account and the correct amount. That information is not always placed on all three major reports and your valid creditors usually only check one of these sources, so make sure you check all three (TransUnion, Equifax and Experian) for correct information. You should also check your credit score at these agencies to see the impact of your debt history on your credit-worthiness. Click for a FREE 3-in-1 Credit Report.
If NCO does not leave you alone, Lexington Law is an affordable legal tool to get them to stop calling and writing you. They are also very effective at deleting the negative information off of your credit reports.
Oh, and Miss Hill, thanks for calling ;)
Important! File a complaint with the Pennsylvania Attorney General - easy online form (NCO is a PA company and PA is investigating NCO)
P.S. The Pennsylvania Attorney General recently finished a big case against them, though the complaints continue.

Alrighty Folks!…
Raise your hand if you’ve been watching the news and are aware of the Global Economy.
Fanny Mae, Freddie Mac….GM….
…These organizations are controled by the Bernie Madoff’s of society….And so is NCO.
They are gonna be there to lick the sweat off your wallet if YOU let them….
Please don’t be stupid and enter into ANY agreement or continue correspondance with these people….The more you do the longer they will hound you.
They are worthless….Just like the debt they are trying to collect.
Let them take you to Court….They always say they will but never file. Do not be afraid of these Scabs…They are nothing without the benefit of you for their intimidation.
By the way, how many of you can actually remember the debt they are trying to collect?? I bet the debt is more than 10 years old and far beyond the Statue of Limitations.
NCO is SCUM….. Let them call everyday like they do and let the answering machine get it.
Call them back, ( they pay for all incoming calls) and give them a piece of your mind without disclosing any information of who you are. I do this frequently for my own enjoyment!
SCREW NCO !!!

Posted 10 Dec 2008 at 1:14 am ¶I just found this site because I was looking for a number to call NCO because I lost my account number and I need to send them checks to pay off a 14-month old hospital debt. I already sent them three, on a monthly basis, so they have my account number, and after reading these comments I am worried. I know I have a debt with the hospital they spoke of, but will it really go away if I pay these people? The hospital said that I have to pay NCO. If I stop sending checks, will they still penalize me somehow? Will my credit score be destroyed? I am a second year college student and am on my own with this debt, and I don’t even own a credit card, just a checking card. I am a bit worried, could anyone with financial advice e-mail me at darkserefayde@yahoo.com. I don’t want to make a huge mistake…

How do we who are NOT part of this so-called debt stop these harassing phone calls????

My very first phone call from ” NCO Financial” was back in June. They called regarding a student aid debt. I know I had student loans, so I automatically assumed they had finally caught up with me. I didn’t do any research and they got all of my information my acct number and everthing, and I have been paying them for the past five months. SO I’M PISSED, Can anyone tell me any helpful information.
Posted 28 Nov 2008 at 5:28 pm ¶They have been calling for months on my cell phone and I just ignored it. Then some “girl” calls and begins leaving messages claiming we have the same phone number. I call NCO and they say they can find no debt in my name. Why are they calling then? They said they are going to take my name of their list. I’ll believe it when I see it. 800 221 8887
Posted 26 Nov 2008 at 10:14 pm ¶NCO has been hounding me for over four months. I am up to three calls a day, five days a week. And here’s the punch line: I don’t even HAVE any past-due debts; they are attempting to collect a debt from MY SISTER, who used my address as a mailing address (probably illegally). I have told their representatives on many occassions that my sister no longer lives at my address, that I have not spoken to her in over three years, and that I have no information regarding her current whereabouts (all of which is true, in case anyone was wondering), they just don’t listen.

Posted 24 Nov 2008 at 6:59 pm ¶Received a notice from NCO end of September at my parents address. Immediately called and asked what the collection was for and they stated it was property taxes on a vehicle I purchased in October 1993. I moved out of state in April 1994 and had never received a bill for property taxes and my title was transfered after I moved.
Tried to obtain info from City of Virginia Beach but they said since it was turned over to NCO I had to go through them.
I disputed the charges and sent them a letter requesting proof. NCO continues to call even though I told them I sent a letter and they are quite rude. Still haven’t received any proof.
If I owe someone money I’ll pay it but never having received a bill and it’s been 15 years and the vehicles long gone this is more than a little crazy.
Posted 24 Nov 2008 at 6:54 pm ¶To those bloggers such as “Ann” who believe we’re all “dead-beats”: My problems began when I purchased a new cell phone and was issued my number upon activation. Apparently, my “new” number was previously issued to a person with financial problems. Question to “Ann” and those others of like sentiment: Am I just supposed to take this and shut my mouth? I don’t wish to go on further, but NCO IS OUT OF CONTROL based on some of the calls they have made to our household telephone: several involved my elderly Mother and got her ALL UPSET. She’s legally blind and suffers from diabetes and hypertension. NCO refuses to “cease and desist” even when I explained their error. It would be interesting to know how NCO obtained my Mother’s land-line number (UNLISTED) after they called me on the new cell phone. I made the mistake of giving them my name on initial contact. As has been said on this blog, the first mistake is to give them ANY information I think the many suggestions for a class-action lawsuit are excellent and need to be acted on. Any hungry lawyers reading this?

Posted 20 Nov 2008 at 9:00 pm ¶I am sooo glad that I checked this company out…
We had a medical account that we were making payments on. I made a payment to the hospital via phone on 08/08/08, then paid the remaining balance off in full a couple of weeks later. Or so I thought. I received a letter from NCO a few days ago stating that I owe a balance on the account. After some investigative work on my end, it turns out the person who took my call at the hospital billing department on the 8th never processed my payment. I *do* owe the money. I contacted the hospital to see if I can pay them directly and find out why the payment hadn’t been processed - they have no clue, but no, I can’t make the payment with them. I then tried to make the payment on the web with the website addy NCO gives me in their letter - http://www.ncofinancial.com. There’s a “unique registration code” that I’m supposed to be able to log-in with and make payment. It doesn’t work. At all. I attempt to call them at the number they give me in their letter, 866-825-1748. I get thrown into perma-hold voice mail hell, and get sick of waiting. I attempt to access the website again today, and call - same result. I then do a web search and find all of these postings. Lovely. These people are going to be wonderful to deal with. I want to make a payment and have confirmation in my hand as proof of payment in case they try to say at some future date that the debt was not paid. I call the hospital again, tell them the story (again), and then tell them that this company is very shadey to deal with. They give me a different number to reach NCO, 800-967-2070. I *67 my number so they won’t know who I am to get some information unobtrusively (all I wanted was a website addy that I can actually make a payment on). That # puts me through to India. The woman there can’t tell me what website to make my payment on, but she transfers me. The guy who answers the phone has my husband’s name, our address, and account info. WTF? I BLOCKED my number. He says their website is down (really?), but I can pay it over the phone. I tell him that I want payment confirmation in my hand, not a verbal confirmation number he’s going to give me over the phone, and ask when the web site, that is clearly touted as a means of payment on my letter, will be back up. He has no idea but he’ll take my payment over the phone right now. Does anyone else see any red flags here? The whole thing is bugging me. Now, I have no qualms paying this bill (hell, I thought it was paid three months ago), but I do want to make sure that I cross my t’s and dot my i’s with this company. *shaking head* I guess I’ll have to send a check via certified mail just to make sure I have proof of payment. What a pain the @ss…

They make attempts to collect debt that has surpassed the statue of limitations by intimidation, excessive calls and harassment.
The only reason people write on this page about them is because they have made the mistake of communicating with these swines by answering their phone calls or by communicating by mail.
Stand up to these PIGS by calling them back and hanging up. They will PAY for the call.
Do it as many times as they have called you.
Remove any IDENTIFIABLE Information off the bill the send, and mail it back to them with “Play Money” from the dollar store with a note that you are willing to settle.

On several occasions, they have called me as early as 5 a.m., even after I informed them that this practice was illegal. Most recently they called me at 5:30 am over a late payment of $191.00. Fed up, I finally filed complaints with the PA Attorney General and the Federal Trade Commission. I urge all others who have been harassed by NCO to do the same. It is time for our government to enforce the laws they draft for our protection. NCO violates the law because they believe they can. Enough is enough!

HI! I received an automated message from NCO Financial Systems, Inc. from NEW phone # of 1-800-221-6850. They even gave me a file number. I called them the 1st time, and the phone just rung, like 10 or 11 times. NO answer. How legitimate, right? I called again, and it came online. They immediately asked for my whole social security number. They should already have my information if they have credit against me, right? Wouldn’t asking for the claim number be an appropiate 1st question? I got my 3 free credit scores, and there is nothing on there about NCO Financial Systems, Inc. or delinquent accounts. We have had this phone number for almost 3 years and all of a sudden, about three weeks ago I start getting calls from these people for a woman that I’ve nevr heard of. I have told them over and over again and yet the calls don’t stop. It’s absurd! They are extremely disruptive to my daily work and I don’t know how to get them to stop.
Now is it legal to harrass a company for a debt incurred by someone who happened to have the same phone number 8 years ago? NO, but they are getting away with it… I’m calling BBB and the phone company to see if I can have them blocked.

Have not returned their call and have no intention of doing so. I pay my bills on time and have no outstanding unpaid debt. They are some scammers!
Posted 08 Oct 2008 at 7:01 pm ¶I just started getting the calls from NCO monday, from a Robert Marquez 866-266-6318 (ext 3412) they start out being nice then get pissy when you ask for verification of the debt, they just keep asking for your checking account number but say they won’t give out the account number there trying to collect on for my safety. These guys must be nuts, they want my checking account number but won’t give me an account number there supposedly collecting on? Anyways I wrote a letter sent it certified with return-receipt and also filed a complaint with the PA attorney general and my own home state attorney general. I gave them Marquez’s name address phone number ext. etc.. They keep bothering me at work after I told them to stop several times so I figured I’d give them some trouble also. Oh yeh they also stated that I would be in court within a week and there going to garnish my wages. aholes.. good luck..

Posted 07 Oct 2008 at 1:08 pm ¶I got a call from this NCO and called them back to inquire about what they were calling me for. The person I spoke to said he was trying to collect a debt from a dept. store credit card from 1988! I said I did not recall having a credit card with that store and do not owe them a debt. I also asked him to send me documentation regarding said debt. He said he could not provide me with any documentation…WTF? So, I advised him if he could not produce documentation to show proof of a debt, then our conversation was over and advised him to not contact me again. Like I’m going to pay someone $300 just on their word that this debt exists. Please!!!

NCO is calling me on a 10-year old debt of $270. Way past the SOL here in CA. I have a new phone number that is not on the list that they are calling from — (800) 273-6816. They are robo-calling virtually every day. When we are here and one of us takes the call, they refuse to give us an address where we can send a cease and desist letter. They asked me if I think I am above the law. When I asked for an address, they told me to check my credit report. I told them if they were reporting a non-collectible debt, they were breaking the law. At that point they hung up on me without giving me an address. Yet the robo-calls continue almost daily. I have a lawyer so I’ll get him on the case, but thanks for putting up the website and posting the address. Hopefully my lawyer can get them to stop. Still, I would love to sue them. I have group legal insurance so it wouldn’t cost me a dime. Wish I could record phone calls in CA. Keep fighting the good fight!!! Let’s educate people and put these parasites out of business!!

Posted 26 Sep 2008 at 12:31 am ¶I received a call from a man identifying himself with NCO. The man informed the call was in regards to a debt collection. I asked him who he thought he was and he told me the name of a man and asked to speak to him. I informed him that I am the only person that uses this number and I know of no one by that name that would have any connection to my number. He asked a few more times (I suppose to to make sure I was being honest with him) about the man he was looking for. Then he reluctantly told me that my number would be removed and I would not receive another call. I sure hope this situation gets resolved and that there are no more calls form NCO. The poor man I spoke to seemed very unhappy and I’m sure he hates his job. I do know, however, that NCO IS a legit collections company. It’s a bunch of people crammed into small offices and trying to make calls on behalf of business that need money that is owed to them. Their job is not an easy one but I feel that doesn’t justify their need to be rude to anyone.

She brought me a letter she had received from NCO for a bill from a local phone company that hasn’t even been around for YEARS. It offered her 55% off her debt if she paid immediately. She didn’t think it was correct because she hadn’t used the phone co for years++, so she tried to call them to find out what it was about, the female was extremely rude and wouldn’t tell her anything. She got frustrated and hung-up, then about had a panic attack that she had to come up with this money living on her disability. She gave me the letter to try to make payment arrangements, as I was typing the letter I decided to check them out online… Boy am I glad I did!! Thank you to everyone who has posted warnings online. I copied the letter I found here and plan to send it out today. NCO paperwork is not correct nor sent by certified mail nor do their phone banks state who they are via caller ID. We have faxed them with the court settlement they were order to pay in Pennyslvania and refuse to speak with them via phone.
If your account has been charged off by the original company you owed, your FIKA score is already damaged and if that score is over 60 days old, it is best to work with accounts that you can pay to start to repair you credit. Many companies charge off the debt while your are trying to work for a settlement and then “sell it to NCO” who hopes they can collect something from you due to the legal fact that each state statue of limitations for a legal debt starts again if you give NCO a payment. You must know your states statue concerning the time frame for a dept to cease.
Secondary collection agencies pay little for the balance of the original debt and do have a certain time frame to get a payment from you before they “re-sell” the debt.

I have to add one more thing all of these people that are employees of NCO financial are you serious…I think it’s a safe assumption that none of you have ever gotten more than a high school diploma and if you did I can’t seem to figure out how…In fact I hope the worst upon you then I hope you lose your job, and have a series of unfortunate events pile up on you, and just like most people being collected on have all of those expenses pile up on you…then you’ll see how it feels…All debt collectors are self centered a**holes that think only of themselves and don’t have any compassion for other human beings and that’s why you’ll be going to hell
Posted 12 Sep 2008 at 4:53 pm ¶I have to say to all of these people saying pay your debt you obviously have no Idea what you are talking about….I’ve been on both sides of the fence here and I have to say I was a worthless jerk off for collecting. These debt collectors are a bunch of middle aged laid off can’t find a better job people if they had half a brain they’d realize things happen to people and it’s out of their control and that’s why most end up in collections. For example I had a great job paying all my bills just fine, well even with savings it’s never enough, I ended up losing my job, getting into a car wreck one of my closest relatives was in the hospital and my boyfriend came back from over seas and needed medical attention and needed someone to be there. So with that said I’m sure many have it much worse and collectors calling just amplifies the issues at hand. So I have to say that it’s not as easy as just paying your bills so anyone that disagrees I find you very ignorant…and also look at the economy.. my parents are very wealthy yet are somewhat put back because of the prices of pretty much everything skyrocketing. Again on being on both sides here I feel horrible for doing it the very brief time that I did. I feel that there should be more restrictions on collection companies, I may be twenty three years old but a very well educated twenty three year old that from my experience feels that they’re a bunch of ignorant worthless a**holes that need to find a real job and stop kicking people while they’re down. After all their mentality is hey this person didn’t pay their bills so I’ll call them anytime I want and bother the hell out of them…my advice look at the bigger picture moron! let’s see you recover from a situation like a lot of these people are in it’s not easy.

The advice on this website to contact the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office is good. I did this and received a response from the Pa. A. G.’s office that included NCO’s response to a letter sent them by the A.G.’s office. It is interesting to note that NCO never admits to the harrassment, but they do say that further communication will cease. So far, this has proven to be true. The Pa. Attorney General’s office admitted to me that they have had MANY complaints about NCO so they are aware of what they are doing. I also reported them to the Attorney General in my home state of Ohio. I hope this is of help to those of you enduring the hassle that we had for over two years.

I have been getting calls (but no messages) from NCO Financial on a daily basis. Since I am on the national DO NOT CALL list, I submit a complaint online for every call they make. When I called them to ask them to take the number out of their system, they said that they didn’t have it in their system. Apparently one of the qualifications to work for this company is that you must be a very good liar.

Now a year later I am getting letters and phone calls from the famous “NCO”. Today I had to listen to a guy who barely spoke english act like I was a moron. I repeatedly told the guy I already paid it and in the mean time my 5 month old baby is crying because it’s 9am she just woke up and wanted to eat.. I’m trying to feed her and he wants me to look online at the bill…or report whatever..I hung up on him because my kid comes first…and not 1 min. later he calls back.. I tell him I am busy, he tells me I can pay the bill right now..I told him no I already paid it once again. He put me on hold again when he came back he called me sir.. I hung up. I’m not going to sit her and listen to a guy argue with me..over and over and then call me sir? It’s not like I have a manly voice even. They need to get a life. I’m surprized no one has called my house again yet. by 9am they will call again I’m sure..ugh! I’m not even sure if I should answer. They have my name and they have my dads ssn? what the fuck!

This is NOT a request for “verification” or proof of my mailing address, but a request for FULL MEDIA VALIDATION made pursuant to the above named Title and Section. I respectfully request that your offices provide me with competent evidence that (a) the account is valid, (b) the amount allegedly owed is accurate, and (c) I have a contractual obligation to pay NCO Financial for this alleged debt.
All of the following MUST be provided to adequately validate the authenticity of the alleged debt AND provide proof of my contractual obligation to NCO Financial for this alleged debt:
• Copies of all statements from the date account opened until default
• Proof of the statute of limitations
• Proof of agreement that you were hired by the Original creditor (creditor as defined by the FDCPA) or

Remember to also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). You can do this on-line. These NCO people are based in several cities in the US. Horsham, Pennsylvania for one. The people who work for them are rude and misinformed. They don’t care to get the right information either. Just DON”T SEND THEM A DIME. DON’T GIVE THEM ANY OF YOUR BANKING ACCOUNT NUMBERS. They will think nothing of screwing you out of money. Send NCO a certified return receipt letter asking them to stop contacting you. They will. If you’re not sure what to do, contact an attorney and use the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) as your guide.

1. Stop talking about your rights if you doesnt know your obligation.. A lot of people’s postings here are complaints about somebody calling them… but hey!!! wake up!!! you wouldnt receive such calls if at first place you know how to take good care of your responsibilities.. like your bills!!!!!
Yah we have our rights, but dont you think those people also have their rights to do their job: and that is to talk about your finances, about some debts you use for your own sake, and now your running from it and blaming others from letting you remember your own obligation… I pitty you!!!
2. If it is really a wrong #, come on.. talk to them like a real person, give them the chance to verify things and surely theyll do their job to stop calling you….

My husband and I were in tough financial times, and accrued a balance of 1800 dollars with the local gas company. Because we could not afford the place where we were staying (the gas bill was crazy each cold month) we moved into a smaller apartment with our then 2 little babies (they are 3 and 4 now). I was paying what I could and when I could, trying to make good on the debt. Finally, NCO got a hold of it and HARASSED me like you wouldn’t believe it. They made condescending comments about me as a person and as A MOTHER! Implying a few times that if I couldn’t pay my gas bill, I probably wasn’t taking good care of my kids.
Anyways, just wanted to share my story. Luckily, NCO has been a part of my past for a few years now. I pray I never have to deal with them again. Nasty people at that company.
Posted 31 Aug 2008 at 8:54 pm ¶well just so you know guys,,according to FDCPA collectors are allowed to call card holders during sundays and NCO is not violating a law at all…get it?!STUPID MORON!!

Yeah, A little late on that one!! I was 17, not old enough to legally make a binding contract. Dumbasses!! Should’ve checked all that info out b4 U bought this so called debt. And the funny part is it was less than 50 bucks. He talked to me like it was $5000. Even tried gettin me to give him a check over the phone…HAHAHA!!! Bad enough those idiots got my social. Got the wrong bitch, I’m not that stupid!! After reading all this stuff on here, just proves my suspicions!! Luckily they don’t have my number….for now. Their Latest number is 800-511-8676
Posted 30 Aug 2008 at 3:08 am ¶Well I got a letter but it wasn’t directly from NCO Financial Systems. It was from the student loan company. I’ve called NCO but they gave me another number to call and then I called the loan company and they told me that I need to call NCO. I have a different address for them also.
I have:

and to tell them find another person they may be looking for with same as my name.
Someone called me from NCO about one week ago. They never sent me any kind of statement so I couldn’t figure out what it could have been. I tried calling the number back that was given to me. I ended up speaking to 8 different people! First I was hung up on twice not to mention the 2 people I had spoke with were extremely rude and inconsiderate. Then I was transferred 8 times after the last person finally told me that they could not find me in their system. I have never in my life seen a business so unprofessional in my life!
Posted 25 Aug 2008 at 8:24 pm ¶the question is not if SCO FINANCIAL is for real… the question is WHAT ARE THE FEDS WAITING FOR? THE SECOND COMING?
i worked very hard to have excellent credit history. the scam physician didn’t his job. the scam hospital (so called BAPTIST, tell me if you see any resemblance) never even bother to send me A BILL, but sent my “debt” to other SCAM (SPAMMERS) COLLECTORS (SCO WHATEVER) which didn’t even bother to contact me either, but HAD THE POWER TO DESTROY MY CREDIT HISTORY!!!
ARE WE IN PLAIN SCAM/SPAM ERA? how can an organization providing no proof affect somebody’s life and how could i measure the consequential damages they’ve produced me since the end or 2007? HOW MUCH SHOULD THEY PAY FOR THE HUMILIATION IN FRONT OF SOME CHEAP ACCOUNTANTS FROM VOLVO FINANCE/DEALER?
why exactly are we tolerating these INTERNATIONAL OPERATION to also be legal in our Country?
FEDS HELLO????
Posted 24 Aug 2008 at 8:47 pm ¶I have no debts, our house income is in six figures and I never missed a bill. My credit score was 800+. Yesterday I purchased a Volvo (and partially financed it). The APR was way higher than normal and I have been humiliated at the dealer. I paid for the car, accepted finance terms, etc.
When I’ve got back home I checked my credit report found out that my score was 691. Why?
A year back 10/2007, I paid an occasional visit to a physician. He recommended more investigations and scheduled an appointment with Baptist Hospital Pensacola. The appointment supposed to take place 4 weeks later. After speaking with my wife, we decided to ask the physician to cancel the appointment and let him know that we are not interested in his services for the future. The physician have accepted and that was it.
What happened. The physician never canceled the appointment. Baptist Hospital billed a $303 for the appointment (which I have not scheduled, which I have canceled by telling the physician the day after that I was not interested) and of course, never been there in person.
Baptist Hospital never sent us a bill. However, they filed the “debt” to a collection agency from a different state (called NCO FINANCIAL). These guys look like collection spammers or something (they advertize “call campaigns). NCO NEVER EVER CONTACTED US but FILED A NEGATIVE EVENT AGAINST MY CREDIT (via TUC). Of course, almost a year later, I found out about the whole thing.
Question: what is your advise about what I should do in order to have that negative removed from my TUC credit report? Can a hospital file a bill to a collector without send me the bill? Can a collection agency affect my credit ratings without even trying to contact me by any means?
The SCAM NCO seams to constantly apply is to charge for “contact the customer, if not found submit to credit bureaus”. From what I’ve learned from the internet, they do not even bother to contact anyone, just file a credit negative event” then charge their clients as the case has been solved. This improves their “productivity” but please tell me, is this legal? Can somebody ruin your credit with a phone call without even TRYING to actually collect anything prior to that?!?
NCO FILING#: 15879359
Believe me, I have all the means to meet their “attorneys” in court.
Posted 24 Aug 2008 at 8:39 pm ¶my husband kept getting letters form this company and also harassing phone calls not to mention they were also calling his parents house and sending them letters to their house as well. we dont even know what the bill is about. there numbers are unavailable when they call.

Not even to mention the embarrassment now they think it’s ok to harass whoever picks up the phone not just the person they are looking for. Are they really for real????
Posted 18 Aug 2008 at 3:43 pm ¶Just needed to vent…. Thanks!
guys you know what,,not all collectors are rude..they’re just doing there job..they have to keep their goal..we owe money to them so we have to settle payment right?!and that’s the right thing to do..and the thing is,,if we don’t want to be bothered again by their calls,,pay your debt!!!

I have never seen any kind of correspondence or notice and NOW they are ruining my credit for some kind of medical bills, which I have no knowledge about. I’m going to have fun with this one. I just tried calling and I got no one there and please hold (hung-up on, NICE!!!)
Posted 15 Aug 2008 at 11:44 pm ¶Unfortunately, I just paid NCO $118 over the phone for a 6 year old debt of $43!!! I didn’t look them up online until I got off the phone. They actually referred me to the web to look them up. I can only hope this stops now and that they don’t do anything inappropriate with the information I gave them over the phone. I paid with a check by phone so they have my bank routing number. I feel so stupid! :-(
Posted 15 Aug 2008 at 10:02 pm ¶This post is for everyone here but I especially have a message for the other Angela who posted 8/12/08. I got the same offer for a credit card. It is not an offer. It is an attempt by this lowlife debt collection agency to reactivate a debt that might be too old to collect on. Warren & Vullings is filing a class action on my behalf. 215-745-9800. Please call them. Add yourself to it. Make money off of them instead of them making money off of you.
FOR EVERYONE ELSE PLEASE READ:
I went to http://www.fairdebtlawyers.com and submitted an online complaint about NCO. Guess what?! They filed suit on my behalf for free and collected statutory damages for me from NCO for violations of the FDCPA. The above site is for a legitimate lawfirm in Philadelphia PA and they are amazing. They go after NCO every day and win. Just thought I’d pass on the info. The name of the lawfirm is Warren & Vullings and their phone number is 215-745-9800. Call them. You won’t regret it. There are alot of things these collection agencies do that are against the law and most people don’t even realize they are being violated.
Posted 15 Aug 2008 at 4:54 am ¶wow these NCO employees that are posting crap are harsh!!! great way to advertise your company. just proves people right, that your company is annoying and not a good company!!!
Posted 15 Aug 2008 at 12:16 am ¶John Brown NCO does break the law, they have the same account listed on my CR twice, they do NOT respond as legeally required to debt validation letters but still continue to report, they try to harass and collect on debts that are past SOL, they have also called my home after 9PM, so please tell me again what an upstanding company NCO is!

Posted 13 Aug 2008 at 5:35 pm ¶This company has called all 4 of my children and asked not only for my contact info, which they have. But they even asked one child to pay their Mom’s bill. She was smart enough to say sorry, that’s your problem not mine. Yet they call all 4 kids everyday. I am unemplyed and have no phone. I have a mailing adress, but NCO sends nothing. How do I make them stop calling my children who aren’t responsible for GE Money debt?
Posted 13 Aug 2008 at 4:20 am ¶For John Brown: I’m not going to get into a pissing patch with you. My comments stem from my own experience. However, I don’t think that these people have absolutely nothing to do except find a site like this one to complain about a company they have no first hand knowledge about. And as far as stereotyping people, if the comments made by the NCO representatives to the third party people and to myself are not stereotypical, I don’t know what is. The bottom line is nobody wants to own any money. These people have called me names, told me to borrow money from other people and yes, even use a credit card for a cash advance. That’s how they help? They harass us and everybody around us, getting the names wrong, threatening us with arrest, insinuating all sorts of things. I tried not to have an adversarial relationship with them. Unfortunately, they chose to make it very difficult for me. So I reported them, along with the hundreds and hundreds of people who are, according to you, making all this up. Believe me, I have better things to do. And besides, I’m NOT the client. They don’t have to satisfy ME. Don’t you get it???
Posted 13 Aug 2008 at 3:17 am ¶FOR RT: It’s just that its not right to stereotype! How would you know that this NCO office is the same as the others? Aside from the fact that this site has only less than 1000 negative comments. Imagine how big our country is! NCO handles millions of accounts so in short there are more satisfied client than those client like you who finds NCO as a blood sucker. Its you’re credit score who benifits most not theirs! OK? so try to be open-minded! Do you have a proof that all comments that has posted here is nothing but the truth?
Posted 13 Aug 2008 at 2:33 am ¶We got behind on our AMEX bill, card cancelled. We’ve since arranged with AMEX to send them payments directly in Dallas, TX, to clear our account telling them we’ve read about NCO and don’t trust NCO. AMEX said yes, send us payments, even though our phone system says for your account to work directly with NCO. Explained this to Carol Randall-Meyer or Meyer-Randall (she talks so fast we can’t understand her name, and then she refuses to tell it to us what her name is again, or (this is really funny-her voice starts shaking when I tell her to “very slowly” spell it out for me). And check this out> My wife and I had discussed working with Carol ($), then (!-then!) Carol called my wife when I was at work and screamed at my wife, telling her “I’m tired of this. You keep telling me to talk to your husband!”. Sorry Carol, my wife’s Philippine and doesn’t understand a high blood pressured stranger screaming at her on the phone- but does find it quiet entertaining!-he he. Course a wordly person like yourself, Carol, who can only set on a phone all day and lie and deceive people..well anyway. I almost married a lady in Dallas who’s a successful collector, so I know the system as I explained to you. And check this out, everybody, we’ve explained to Carol we live on a military base, where ALL phone calls are recorded, and where I can request phone records at any time. Well, NCO and Carol, now, keep calling, because *it is only helping us now build our case/suit against you :-0 We look forward to your next phone call. And Carol, you had $ coming your way, till you lost your manners-don’t forget, you hung up on me when you called my work number also (and it’s recorded :-). Anyway, please call us again now, soon as possible, we’re looking forward to it :-) And so is the Pennsylvania Attorney General :-O
Posted 13 Aug 2008 at 2:01 am ¶** Folks who read this, don’t be afraid to tell those you owe, who’ve hired NCO (ie, sold debt to them) that you don’t trust NCO and want to settle directly with them. Send them $5/month or whatever, they’ll take it vs giving a bunch of bill collectors a fee.
as i walked in the door tonight the phone was ringing, and without looking at caller ID i answered it, and got an automatic recording, with a phone number and a case number.
800-379-5290 #ez1156
so i called and waited and waited…40 minutes. Nothing
So I looked them up and called the main number on their website
800 550 9619
no record of me or any debt in my name, they were looking for some gloria something. They asked for my name and i read them the riot act.
“we have had this number for over 2 years, do not ever call us again. If you do, we will file immediately with lisa madigan, the attorney general of illinois, who by the way will be running for governor and would love to bust your chops for fun. do you have any questions?”
No sir
For everyone who reads this, they are combing the multitude of databases that are available for free or for a fee. There are millions of bits of information floating around about you from credit card companies, telephone companies, electric companies, drivers license and voting records, wills and deeds, lottery, school enrollment, car dealers, credit reporting companies, airlines, the list is endless. In fact, some companies like magazines make more money from selling your information than they do selling you the magazine.
Basically, everything you do these days leaves some sort of footprint, unless you dont give any identifiable information and pay with cash.
Im sure scum like NCO buy that shi* in bulk. Peoplesearch just sells it over and over and over, like bags of candy.
I’m finally out of debt, and my heart goes out to every single person who has to wrestle with these bastards.
God be with you
Posted 13 Aug 2008 at 1:39 am ¶I recieved 2 offeres this week in the mail to apply for their credit card; Has anyone else seen this offer. I was considering it, but after reading the following complaints, I think I have changed my mind. I’ll just deal with the debtor directly. But how can I get them to stop calling and sending letters? The debt is now more than 4 years old.
Posted 12 Aug 2008 at 8:27 pm ¶I got a call today from Sylvia (888-666-8866) about my account. I do have debt with NCO and I have been paying it off for years. The problem is that I don’t always get the payment reminders/statements they send. A couple years ago I sent in a payment without having received a statement and NCO never got the check.
So, back to Sylvia… I told her that I had not gotten a statement and she responded with “OK, so I’ll put down that you’re refusing to pay. Your account will be turned over to the wage garnishment department and you should get a lawyer.” I tried again to explain that I needed a statement to pay my bill and verify my balance. I also repeatedly asked to talk to a supervisor, but Sylvia informed me that there was no one else to talk to. She just kept telling me to get a lawyer. Then she said something about wanting to check if I had credit cards in collection and hung up on me.
I called back and finally talked to the manager (and Sylvia’s supervisor), Mary Tankoua, and she was very helpful. I made a payment over the phone, and she removed the wage garnishment transfer request from my account. She also told me that she would listen to the tape of the earlier call. I don’t know what will come of this, but I just hope I keep getting statements. I mean, I’m not sending money to some company without seeing that my balance is going down!
Posted 12 Aug 2008 at 6:46 pm ¶For John Brown: You are obviously an employee of those blood sucking vampires. They do indeed break the law and they do it regularly. They DID disclose information about me to a third party - several times. When I asked the representative to spell his last name for me, the little twerp hung up on me. They are rude and have raised animosity to an art form. Don’t kid yourselves folks, if NCO is indeed breaking the Federal Debt Collection act (you can get a copy on line - KNOW YOUR RIGHTS) REPORT THEM TO THE FTC AND THE PA ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE.
Giving us a telephone number does not verify truthfullness. AND based on MY experience and the hundreds here,, you are wrong.
Posted 12 Aug 2008 at 3:54 am ¶NCO is not allowed to disclose any information to a third party so you are recieving a call back number with no particular name or debt so that any person in the house can call them back to verify some information on a specific person and account. You may accept or dispute the debt coz sometimes they just get bad numbers like people with same name but different socials and birthdate so upon confirming that you’re not the one they looking you’re number will be deleted in their list!
Bear in mind that NCO has different offices world-wide so call this number 866-4420536 and you will know that they do not violate any federal or state law! BASED ON EXPERIENCE!
Posted 11 Aug 2008 at 10:05 am ¶We have been recieving calls NONSTOP for 2 months now. I answer the phone and get nothing on the other end. Now I worked for a very nice collection agency under a government contract. Now the law states, if they call more than 3-4 tims a day, with considerable time inbetween they are following the law. If they are calling repeatly morning, noon, and night then it is harassment. THey are only aloud to call up to 9pm, we have have them call after 9pm. The only acception to these laws, is if it is a Bank calling. They have different laws, and complaints have to be filled in a different manner. I do plan on staying on the phone as long as possible next and try to talk to someone. I am glad that i found this blog, and to hear I am not the only one recieving these annoying, harassing phone calls.
Posted 08 Aug 2008 at 3:39 pm ¶I have been receiving calls from 800-413-0134 for weeks now, and tonight was the first time I ever received a voice message of them stating who they are and what they want. The number comes up as Unavailable, and the message said that they were a debt collection agency and i needed to call “MR Brown”. I am not going to call anyone, as I don’t have any debt at all. I just paid off my credit card and am living debt free, with the exception of every day bills. I just say, ignore the calls. I have put my cell phone on the DNC list, but that has obviously not helped. I am trying it agian. I am not answering their calls though, as I don’t want to end up being charged for something by just answering.

Posted 07 Aug 2008 at 6:14 pm ¶I have just found out that NCO bought my debt from American Express. They are demanding a payment that I can not afford and are refusing to except any payment that is less than the amount demand. I have even enrolled in CCA (Consumer Creidt Services) to try and get a ower payment and they also have refused to acept a payment from them. American Express had increased my interest to 29.7 which is a default rate and has been adding approx. $695 a money to my balance. This rate has added approx. 5000 to my balance along with the late fees. I have cashed in IRA’s and paid tax returns to this debt and still can not make a dent due to the high interst and the fact that no one willl work with me. I just want to know where these people get off by sinking me futhure in debt and not letting me make payments? How am i or any ohter person who has falling on bad times suppose get this debt cleared and just how much lower is my credit rating going to go?
Posted 07 Aug 2008 at 5:57 pm ¶At some point NCO got a hold of my personal bank account information and since then is submitting “checks” for very large dollar amounts. The money is not in the account but I have over $300.00 in overdrafts and had to close the account. I spent all morning on the phone with the company and just got sent from person to person with no answers. When i finally had enough and said I want answers and I want them now and that I was going to record the call so no errors were made, they hung up on me. So much for trying to get the so called issue resolved in a professional manor. Thanks for all of the info, I am going to file complaints in PA and NY.

Like many soldiers, he visited the Army & Airforce Exchange Services (PX) to buy supplies, etc. He used his debit card to purchase goods. He returned home and discharged from the Marines. Recently (July 08) 4 yrs since he left Iraq, he received a call from NCO Financial Services stating that the transactions in Iraq never processed and he owes more than $1,000 dollars + interest accrued within these three years. Of course we are not going to pay, but we are extremely disgusted that they would target our soldiers, who served this country. If other soldiers are receiving the same accusations, please e-mail me at mhorton79@juno.com. Our congress needs to know veterans are being targeted. Together we can stop NCO. Thank you!

Posted 01 Aug 2008 at 11:12 pm ¶I think I have a solution. The company is called NCO (www.ncogroup.com) They call on behalf of (in my case) Capital One. One of their phone numbers is 800-550-9619. I suggest that you call and try to sell them something…like a vacuum cleaner or blender. Maybe a dog walking service…use your imagination. I did it….it was fun. I plan to do it a lot in my spare time since they’ve hammered me with calls for months.
Posted 01 Aug 2008 at 6:35 pm ¶These people asked for a post dated check, I did it just to get them to stop calling. I wish I had reseached them first. They did not send me a reminder letter in the mail and the ran the check. I did not have the funds to cover and the check bounced. Insted of calling me and asking me what happend they kept running the check adding NSF fees to my bank account. I called and spke to a manger and we had a heated talk. He told me he had a right to the money and he was going to keep doing it untill the debt got paid. he refused to let me talk to the accounts department of give me the number. I told him I would just do a stop payment on the check and he told me he has othr ways of getting my money, in a threating tone. Then he told me I had 24-48 hours to take care of the debt, but he would not tell me what would happen. Who grows up in life and says hey I want to be a debt collector. I made a formal complaint with the FTC and I hope something is done these people need to be stopped.
Posted 01 Aug 2008 at 6:35 am ¶Our daughter passed away 3 years ago due to complications from surgery. Her vehicle was subsequently reposessed and her daughter and son paid the balance between the value of the car and what was owed. They have misplaced their receipt for that, and this debt has subsequently been turned over to NCO. They keep calling because my name was given as a reference at the time of purchase, but I was not on the loan. They call constantly and I have explained the situation to them. They are very rude and I have subsequently been screening my calls and don’t answer if I don’t know the number. It’s hard enough to lose a child and to keep getting harrassed by these people makes it even tougher.
Posted 31 Jul 2008 at 9:04 pm ¶See my message dated July 19. A followup. Sending a certified mail, return receipt requested letter to NCO for them to STOP calling me worked. I also filed complaints with the Federal Trade Commission and the the Pennsylvania Attorney Generals Office. These can be done on-line and you do get an acknowledgement back. Remember that these measures only slow them down. If you have a real debt, retain legal counsel for help. I have. Don’t wait folks. File your complaints against this company. These blood sucking pigs do not want to make it easy. Make sure you get the names of the people you are talking to. You can mention them when you file your complaint. Good luck to all

I asked where they were from and that is what they said. When I told them I was aware of the debt they were speaking of and theat I could only afford $150 monthly to take care of it they told me to seek out a family member to borrow it from or that their client would be taking me to the Superior Court of NJ and the cost of my original debt would be doubled. If I didn’t read this I would really be afraid and bullied. Thanks you everyone for your advise and postings. I will be filing a claim with the BBB and PA immediately!

I cannot believe NCO is getting away with these harassing calls. My phone began ringing this weekend like crazy. Even on Sunday. On Monday a representative left her name and telephone number. We have been divorced for over 12 years and have no contact with one another, as our children are now grown. Cobb told me that I had been listed as a contact person for this young man and I should know how to find him, he said he was trying to update his files and had been unable to find him. When quizzed about who he was and just exactly what he did he became, rude and indignant. Why call me for this information, when there are public records where this information can be obtained. It is bad enough that these scum sucking bottom feeders harass people who may or may not have debt, but to call and harass others because they are to damn lazy to find them on their own! I’d rather give my money to the man on the street corner looking for his next bottle of whiskey, at least you know they are on the up and up. The number was 1-800 448-9570, also calling from PA.

Its odd that they didn’t say who the message is for…
I was called at the end of June 2008 by a representative at NCO Financial Systems. I received a letter from NCO Financial Systems, with no date on it, around July 1st, 2008 stating that I owed $59.90. I was pretty sure that I had already paid that bill but could not find any receipts. I was contacted by phone on July 3, 200 by an Ernest Banks with NCO Financial Systems stating that my balance of $60.00 could be settled for $50.00 if I paid it that day. I agreed to the payment, authorizing the $50.00 payment. Upon further investigation into my financial records and receipts, I found a printed receipt from ER Solutions, the collections agency that handled the debt prior to NCO Financial Systems. I made several calls to AT&T, NCO Financial Systems and ER Solutions on July 17 2008. I was told by the representative at AT&T that my debt went to ER Solutions on July 26, 2007. I contacted ER Solutions and their representative that an attempt by myself to pay the bill over the phone by check or debit card was never processed because there was no zip code on file. He also stated that my debt went on to another agency at midnight on March 31, 2008. He was not able to give any information about which agency picked up the debt as of April 1, 2008. Through reasonable assumption, I believe the “alleged” debt was transferred to NCO Financial Systems. I refer to this actual initial amount of debt of $59.91 from AT&T as “alleged” because I have found the original printed receipt of payment to the original collection agency of ER Solutions stating that the debt was paid for on August 14, 2007. This proves that the “debt” that ER Solutions states was not processed and paid for by myself is nonexistent. At the least, the debt was paid for already and they “sold” it to NCO Financial Systems which in turn collected again.

Within a few days I received my copy of the cert. mail receipt and a new letter from a NCO creditor referring to the same debt. I of course responded with the same two letters via cert. mail to them. Do you think that Omni sold this debt to NCO that fast?
Posted 19 Jul 2008 at 4:57 am ¶Received many calls from NCO 800-709-8605 and 800-709-8605. While I tried not to have an adversarial relationship with these awful people, they make it very difficult to be anything but. Unfortunately, my debt is real. However, I became very ill and am now a resident of a vent dependent unit of a local nursing home. NCO kept calling me here asking for money, they even wanted my checking account information so I can “post date“ a check for them. They expected me to come up with a large amount of money in 2 days. Then they said that it was ok if I couldn’t come up with the money and they would wait 5 days and redeposit the check. I guess they thought I was born yesterday. Then, they wanted me to borrow money from people. I told them that if I can’t pay NCO, why would I put myself in further debt by borrowing money from my friends whom I won‘t be able to pay back. And besides, I don’t have friends who have that kind of money. If I had any money, I wouldn’t be in a nursing home and we wouldn‘t be having this conversation. They know where I am and have no need to try to “locate” me. NCO have called people I no longer associate with and received false information about me. Now, they’re calling people I am barely acquainted with passing out this false information and informing them that I not only owe a large amount of money, but are indicating the actual amount. They are implying criminal activity on my part by saying “there is something fishy going on”. (I received a call from these “acquaintances” and was on the receiving end of a tirade like you wouldn’t believe because NCO called them!!) I just found this site and can’t believe to what lengths this particular (and I’m sure others as well) company goes to. I was not aware of the Federal Debt Collection program. I will be sending NCO a letter to stop calling me. I will also be filing a complaint with the PA and NY Attorneys General Office as well as the FCC. I will also be contacting legal counsel for help in resolving this. In the meantime, I now have caller ID and I do not answer any calls from NCO or any 800 number. I didn’t think I was alone, but I had no idea that this was such far reaching state. Thank you all for your insight and advice.
And for all those NCO people posting their comments about the state of economic affairs and that people should just “pay their bills”, blah, blah, blah. You are all bloodthirsty people at heart and have no human feelings at all. You are all shortsighted and do not research your own cases. You do not care if you have the right information about the person you are harassing or even the right person. Your goal is to intimidate until the person who doesn’t owe anything just pays you to get you off their back. What goes around comes around.
Posted 19 Jul 2008 at 4:29 am ¶I was contacted, first by Christine or Christina from phone number 1/800-858-3164 x3164. I called back on 7/16/2008 and she was extremely rude and very unhelpful. I then called 1-800-735-1998 and was transferred to my Rep Jay. While speaking to Jay, Joy got on the phone for whatever reason an d began yelling, literally, about this debt. Finally, I was able to speak to Jay again and an arrangement was set up, with verification of Jessica. I called back the following day and asked to speak with Jay, because I did not feel comfortable with the arrangement and Joy jumped on the phone again and proceeds to tell me about my debt and how to pay it. I called to cancel the arrangements seeing that I had the billing address and would rather send in my payments. Another arrangement was setup and I proceeded with my day. Today, 7/18/2008, after reviewing the information with my lawyer and bank, I called to again cancel the arrangements. Jessica, who I had talked to before was very unhappy about me cancelling and proceeds to insult me repeatedly. And I literally mean REPEATEDLY. I did however, so she said get the arrangement cancelled. At this point, as I have stated, I have notified my bank, and my lawyer is, shall we say overly involved. This was the worst experience I have EVERY had with any kind of customer service or collections. The three ladies are very bad at their jobs and I did suggest to Jessica that she may want to think about a career change.

***Fraudulent***
Never give them info. This has to be stoped!
Report them to:

I fell for the NCO scam in 2003 when they called to collect on a Spiegel account which I paid in full and closed in 1998. After telling them that I know I paid the account in full and closed the account, not because of an overdue situation, but because I was downsizing my credit, they insisted that an amount of over $400 was still on the books. They actually asked me if I had a paid receipt to prove that I had paid it!! When I scoffed at that because it was well over 5 years since I paid the account, the clerk became belligerent and insisted that I would have to come up with a billing statement with zero balance. I kept saying I don’t owe the money and they said something to the effect that they would hate to put in my file that I was being uncooperative and refusing to pay the account. Since the account was so old, I began to have doubts, even though it wasn’t my practice to incur such enormous overdue accounts! So I arranged to arranged to make 3 payments (automatic deductions from checking account) over the next 3 months. Only 1 payment was made and when I noticed that payments 2 and 3 had not been made and called them, of course, nobody knew anything. My name, Spiegel account number, NCO account number . . . all meant nothing to them. They were clueless. Now I wished I had been smarter and stuck to my guns in my claim that I already paid the account. But I was only out a little over $100, it could have been worse. I am so sympathetic with others, especially the elderly, who will fall for this and because of their integrity, will pay what they are told is owing. It is a unconscionable and despicable thing NCO is doing. Now many of these NCO phone numbers are showing up on my caller ID and yesterday a message was left. Couldn’t understand most of what the girl said but I can guarantee I won’t fall for it again! Once burned — shame on you! Twice burned — shame on me!

Posted 16 Jul 2008 at 4:35 pm ¶1-888-899-6027 is yet another number.
Here’s what you do folks: Tell them you are the person they think they are calling and start to laugh. They were accusing me of being some Asian woman. So I told them I am now a transvestite and moving to Tailand to sell myself and will come back to repay them “my” debt. The woman caller was really confused but then asked me “When do you think you will be able to pay then?” So I told her, “Not for long while. Me long ‘em long time,” and hung up on her. I still get them calling, but then I answer with different personas, like “This is Sargent Markowitz. Who’s calling please?” Then after they identify themselves, tell them they just called a crime scene. If they call back, act like you are a drug dealer and just make up fake lingo like “I’ve got pow-wow on the snow-covered twin-peaks for one Benji and a Jefferson. You ain’t the narcs, right?” Or pretend you are a Chinese restaurant: “Way-Wong’s Take-out, me take yor orda pease?” Or my favorite: “Better Buisness Beuro, how may I direct your call?”
I say, have some fun with these bastards.

I am ineligible for loans because I have no collateral. I just wanted more time. These people call me so much that I have put my cellphone on “silent” as the normality. It breaks my heart that I miss calls from family and friends who call me to give me what emotional support they can provide. It is crushing to hope time and again that the call would be from one of these people but it is from NCO almost every time. trying to reach my daughter, Michal Ann, I told them she didn’t live at home
any more. They had already disclosed the purpose of the call was to collect a
debt and the amount of the debt. I told them they should verify the identity
of the person, like verifying birth date, before disclosing information. They
told me that’s all the law required. My daughter subsequently paid the bill, which was a misunderstanding with the insurance company. My daughter just told me that NCOFS accused me of “pretending to be her”! I called NCOFS to complain and they told me
that I “broke the law”, when I didn’t ask them if they wanted me or my
daughter, which hasn’t lived at home in a while. I asked to speak with a

You all are so pathetic. Running up debts and complaining that you have to face responsibity for you boneheaded decisions. Everyone who complains about calls or documentation about a bill you owe are first class bums.

A bill payer and true american
I’ve been getting intermittent phone calls from NCO and the information was very helpful for putting together what was going on. I don’t have any debts so I’m not sure what’s up, but I’m not calling back. The phone number I was told to call back was 1-800-810-0590. As with everyone else there was a case number, etc.
Posted 31 May 2008 at 5:40 pm ¶215-441-3000–this is the number of the lady who called and said she was from Sprint. I called Sprint earlier that day to upgrade one of my phones on my Sprint account, because I get a $150 credit after two years. I guess she was trying to pull one over on me, because when I started to ask her a lot of questions, she hung up. Apparently, they have affiliates with Capital One, which also miraculously appeared as an account on my credit report-I have contacted the FTC and reported suspects-all individuals have harrassed me by attempting to block me from viewing my own accounts, etc. I also contacted all 3 credit reporting agencies, and I have had to call the Dekalb, Ga. authorities to report names of suspected local people, so when the FTC completes their investigation, they can compare notes with the local authorities, and these stalkers can be arrested–it’s one thing to invade someone’s privacy because of a loose nut in the box, but quite another to steal someone’s identity and use it as their own, even pretending to be married to the person. In fact, isn’t there a federeal law against that , making that person a felon when convicted?! You could say I will be quite the vindictive one, to say the least–somehow, these FOOLS have to learn a lesson in a federal prison for a few decades.

It’s all gooks that work there for some reason, and they hate it when I tell them so. Today I told them that I was unable to make payment, and she insisted that I could do SOMETHING. I suggested that perhaps I could be a male prostitute and send NCO the money, but she thought that was “using profanity.” DUMB SLOPE!

Posted 20 May 2008 at 12:28 am ¶they gave me this number
1-888-829-0236 but it came up in my caller id as unknown name and number
NCO Financial
I went to buy a house in Nashville in May of 2008. I found the perfect home and applied for a home loan through CHASE. Come to find out that even though my credit is great I have a collection for $200 from an SBC home telephone line in Compton, CA. I have lived in California before but nowhere near Compton. It was up to me to clear this up before my closing date two weeks later or else I was not going to be approved for my home loan. I called NCO Financial and finally got through to a woman who was hell bent on not telling me how to fix this situation. When I asked to speak to a supervisor she put me on hold and the phone mysteriously disconnected. The second woman I spoke with said a SSN number that started with 298- and I corrected her that my SSN starts with a 296-. About the fourth time she did this I stopped her from talking and told her this was the problem, it’s not my SSN. She then paused a moment and than said, “oh, it is 296-xx-xxxx!” I told her that this was as shady as can be and I wanted to speak to a supervisor. After being on hold for a long time a woman picked up and and explained that she was a supervisor. I asked her how I could resolve my problem and the only thing I could understand of what she was saying was to prove that I didn’t live in Compton, CA or pay the money. I don’t know exactly how to prove that you didn’t live somewhere, I think that’s impossible so I had to do the opposite and prove where I did live. Anyway, the rest of our conversation was useless due to the fact that this woman was speaking ebonics with a heavy accent, I’m not sure if it was a joke that they were playing but I kept trying to tell her that if she’s speaking English I have no idea what she is saying. What a professional company this NCO Financial is turning out to be!
With no success being able to reach anyone at NCO Financial that could help me and who wouldn’t place me on hold without the phone magically hanging up(a big game they like to play), I focused on proving every place I lived for my entire life. This way, even if no one at NCO Financial would help at least CHASE hopefully could pull their heads out and apply some common sense to this situation and realize that this isn’t my debt. If I was going to ruin my 750+ credit it would not be over 200 fucking dollars!!! Anyway, I did just that, I now have documentation for ever place I have ever lived and the dates as well. I forwarded this information to CHASE and called NCO Financial to try and reach someone that could give me a fax number so that I can get this information to the proper people. After several failed attempts and being transferred from department to department and being jerked around a woman was finally able to help me. She started off the conversation and immediately said 298-xx-xxxx. I couldn’t believe it, ever since the first time I corrected one of their representatives all the people have been saying 296-xx-xxxx. I knew this was no coincidence and immediately stopped her. She asked me to spell my name which is not a common one, in fact there are only 11 of my last name and they are all family in Ohio, I’m the only one to have ever left Ohio bearing this last name. She said that the SSN’s do not match up and the first name is miss-spelled. It was obviously fraud and she said they would remove it from my credit within thirty days. That didn’t help my current situation with CHASE so she said they would fax me a letter by the end of the business day. I waited and low and behold no fax. I called the next morning and got in contact with a supervisor named Dave King. He assured me that he would put a rush on it but that it takes them time to type up this intricate letter and they are working as diligently as possible. I waited and finally just before the end of the second day the fax came through. It was a pidly two-liner that contradicted itself as follows: “Please be assured that our records do not reflect your having owed on the above account number, nor have we furnished your information to any credit reporting agencies. Despite this, to the extent your information is appearing on any report with any credit bureau which we do business, we have made a request to delete our listing of the above referenced account from your credit profile.” What the fuck is that? Amazing. These people are the scum of the earth. They are the dog shit on the bottom of my shoe and I hope this happens to their asses at least once in their pathetic lives. They make Lawyers, tax assessors and used car salesmen seem like saints. The sad thing is I bet half of the people who jerked me around this whole time are barely above minimum wage with real credit problems of their own, none of them sounded like they had a descent education or clue as to what they were doing. I also wonder how many people, especially the elderly that would have gave in and paid just because they feel like they have to or don’t know any better. What a group of crooks!!!

Have all called my parents house 24 times (collectively) within the last 4 days. They have not identified themselves since the first two or three calls that came through. They are always hang-ups or the morons going “hello. hello. hello.”(we have the generic “leave a message after the beep” answering machine message, so they cant mistake it for someone answering) This is ridiculous
How about just paying the bill? That would get them to stop calling. And what do you mean “the debt is so old no one has an obligation to pay”? Are you saying all any one has to do is run up a debt and then not pay for it for years then eventually it will be too old to collect? Wow, that’s amazing, there’s a really nice flat-screen tv I’ve been wanting, I think I’ll take your advice and get it for free. I didn’t realize people could run around piling up debt and never have to pay for it. What a novel idea.

So I called back and was yelled at by the rep. Today, I got a call from the same rep but the number didn’t show up as “unavailable” it actually showed up 937-427-7300. Anyway, I have read other sites that say that they will accuse you of “hiding” the person if you say they have the wrong number. They haven’t asked for any debt, but they wont stop calling!! Would it be worse if I answered?
Posted 06 May 2008 at 5:54 pm ¶in case you don’t already know it. these people will make you crazy. be assertive with them. call them out on their game. If you’re reading here, then you’ve probably already been researching them and you’ve read about how they work. Insist on working with your original creditor. ask for copies of signed contracts and itemized statements. send them cease and desist letters. it will at very least force them to do something other than harass you for a few minutes. and….if you either never answer their calls or refuse to work with them, you’ll notice that a company with a different name will start to call you. It’s not usually the same company. They sell your debt to yet another company for even less than they paid for it to start with and the cycle starts all over. Generally speaking…if you agree to pay even 10% of your bill…they got their money back…but before you do…i’d ask for a written contract that states the amount you’ve agreed to pay and the terms of the agreement…i.e…this will be marked paid in full with all credit bureaus…etc., etc. And NEVER send money without the agreement and when you do send the money…keep a copy of the payment. I suggest you refuse any pmt option besides a simple money order that you mail to them. They’ll try to tellyou that you’ve agreed to mail payments in the past and you didn’t do it and they won’t accept mail payments and you have to give them a checking account number or a credit card number or wire them money via WESTERN UNION. DON’T DO IT! They’ll charge the whole amount to your accounts and Western Union fees are just more money you have to spend. SAY NO! You can usually buy a money order at any bank for a dollar or less. Whatever you do…send them a letter insisting they stop calling you. I can deal with mail statements. Generally…unsecured debts like credit cards are never going to end up causing you to have your wages garnished. Student loans, back taxes, child support…yes…but collection agencies for unsecured debt…not likely.
Posted 06 May 2008 at 4:55 pm ¶DON’T let them have the upper hand. Don’t give them any information if at all possible. Answer your home phone like a business…make up a business name if you must. Never give your name when you answer…just say…something like…Front Desk…or 1835 Pine, How can I help you? When they ask to speak to you…say…she’s not available may i take a message…(this can be a clincher right here)…they shouldn’t talk to you at all. Ask who they are…company name, address…purpose of call…their full name (expect a lie)…if they won’t give it…tell them no one there takes calls without knowing what they’re about. Just be as obnoxious as they are…they’ll pass you on to another company. And remember….they paid less than 10% of your balance for your debt…your original creditor charged it off and took their tax loss…you SHOULD refuse to work with any agency other than your original creditor!
I received a call today from NCO about my AMEX business card. I am having a hard time financially right now and was 3 months behind on my AMEX. The person I spoke with as for the full balance in 30 days. There was no way I can pay that much. Then I was offered to pay off the balance in 6 months or just 10% of the balance. I told them the amount I could pay each month, and they refused to accept my payment. (She stated she wasn’t, but she did take it either.) She advised me to take out a loan with my bank or pay off the card with another credit card. I cannot do either. One thing I did not get, I was told if I paid the amount I could afford, that would not pay the interest rate of 34% that AMEX would start charging after 30 days in collection. She told me that AMEX would make a lot of money off of me. I called AMEX and they are not longer servicing the account, NCO is. So, what the? Is this grounds for suing. I should have taped the dang call.

Was going to give them hell regardless as they had been calling my cell for months, i finally rang them back - turned out (after the first guy hung up on me) they were looking for the wrong person and had a “wrong number”. When I have a wrong number I apologise and refrain from calling that number again. Time will tell if they actually “remove my number”.
Posted 02 May 2008 at 9:04 pm ¶Advice to anyone - ask who they are, what their cell/home/parents number, ssn, date of birth etc is…see how obliging they will be.
I will be contacting the PA county prosecution to further strengthen their harrassment suit.
To the employee of this “company” i’m surprised you feel even good enough to show your filthy post on here, worse still trying to defend this company, are you in training to be a defense attorney for peadophiles and rapists? You should feel sick at what you do - that is not a job, i’m sure you have made your parents proud! Disgusting, I would be ashamed to call you a daughter/mother.
1. When the Vermin call your cell…just put your phone on “contacts only” and anybody with a number not on your list goes straight to VM…and if it is a machine calling, it usually will not record…
Posted 02 May 2008 at 12:06 am ¶2. If you must talk to them: Tell them all future contact must be done by mail. Send them this in writing(certified..bla bla).
3. Call the original creditor and work out ANYTHING! They will work it in this toilet economy! and screw the Vermin!
I am getting DAILY calls from these people. They NEVER leave a message on my machine and when I DO pick up (which I am going to stop doing), all I get is a some bulls*** recorded message telling me to ‘please hold’. I have NEVER even heard of this company before. I have had to start screening my calls to avoid them.
Isn’t this kind of thing harassment?? I just want them to leave me alone. I live in CALIFORNIA and they once called us at 7:30 AM (well it was 7:30 here in California). Thats absurd! It was a Saturday too! Get a life people!
Oh, the number on my caller ID is 866-278-1213.

I did not receive any type of letter or other communication from them before they began calling me and I have received no other types of communication from them since they began calling me several times a day.
Posted 01 May 2008 at 10:21 pm ¶In response to Christine and her situation: 1) you do not have to talk to NCO and I would recommend that you stop answering your phone when they call and DO NOT give them a single penny! If you owe the money, call the company you owe the money to, explain the situation to them, and tell them that you would like to work out a payment plan with them directly. Make sure you tell them that you will not be working with the debt collection agency but, only with them and that any payment you make will be to them (the original creditor) and to no one else. I guarantee you that the original creditor will be MORE THAN willing to work with you and to take any payment play you offer to them. I would call the orginal creditor, say “I can pay you this amount of money every week or month where do you want me to send the money.” Don’t even ask them what they want you to pay, just tell them what you can afford and then follow thru. DO NOT tell them you can afford a certain amount and will be making payments at a certain time of the week or month if you can’t. Only make a commitment to what you can actually afford to do. Even if it’s only $10 a month, that’s better than nothing and they will take it, trust me. Plus, if you end up having to go to court, the judge will see that you have made an effort and, if the creditor didn’t take it, that’s their problem. 2) Now, on to NCO, legally, they are not allowed to threaten to “send the case to the county” or threaten you in any way whatsoever if they don’t intend to follow thru. That means that they can NOT threaten to sue you or to “send your account up” (whatever that means) just to get you to be scared and pay them something. It’s illegal for them to do that. I would send them a cease letter (the wording of it is on this website). If they continue to call you, speak to an attorney and sue them. HEAR THIS: what they are doing to you is illegal (the yelling and threatening), you CAN make them stop and they may end up owing you money, if you follow up and sue them. Good luck and “happy wedding!”

“nco rep wrote:
if you think the debt is not yours ask to verify by social security number. i am a collector for nco and we have your ssn thats why we have your credit report.”
Yeah, right. I know I don’t owe the debt and the original company is sending me a letter stating that there is zero balance! Don’t act like we (all) don’t pay our bills! I read the report from the PA Atty General on your company. You’re the collections equivalent of a heroin addict. You scrape the bottom for anything you can get and you’d sell your mother’s soul for the almighty dollar!
To those being harassed: First, do as many other posts mention. Send the stop letters & such. If you DO owe the debt, contact the original creditor immediately. Swallow your pride & tell them what’s going on. I had to do this myself a few years ago. Called Capital One & First Union. Together I owed them about 4500 bucks. One had a higher interest rate than the other so each month they both got money, although the one with higher int. got more. They were BOTH more than happy to cut out the collector & work directly with me.
What you have to remember is that you are NOT the only person out there that owes money & these banks want to get as much of their money back as they can. Many will even drop any new interest charges & possibly drop some of the old non-payment fees & such. Ask them! All they can say is no, but they know that “something” from a thousand-plus people every month beats “nothing” at all!
Call them asap…they will work with you!
DO NOT give these garden slugs ONE PENNY!!! You legally don’t have to if you pay the original creditor!
Good luck & watch your credit reports! That is HUGE in knowing what these people are up to!
:-)

There is a lot that you can do to fight NCO. If you need legal help, I recommend Lexington Law to stop the phone calls, letters and remove NCO from your credit reports. You can also check to see if NCO is posting negative credit report info on you.
If you need more help, post a comment and include your email address (not published) for me to contact you.

I’m on the Do Not Call list and have no debts, so I don’t understand why they harass me so. After a couple of weeks of quiet, they’ve started calling me again, this time from this number: 866-576-1447. I’m sick of it!

Posted 27 Apr 2008 at 8:53 pm ¶I got a phone call today 1.800.786.9330. =D F***** U*** NCO. Get lost!!!
Posted 26 Apr 2008 at 8:59 pm ¶Any advice you could give me would be great.
I got a call at 8:10AM this Saturday that woke me from a dead sound sleep.
It was NCO - They hung up when I answered.
They called me back at 10:26AM telling me that my JPMorgan Chase acct. was in danger of being sent to “the next stage” and if I didnt show a committment to pay, the acct was going to be “sent on” to my county on Monday. (I’m assuming means courthouse) - HELP!
The amount is up to $3800.00 now - $1800 of which is late and interest fees that I did not spend.
I told them that I didnt live in that county anymore. The girl I spoke to was very nice and I told her that yes, I hadn’t paid on this acct in about a year due to needing major surgery and being out of work, and a very bad financial year last year. She asked me what I made now and where I worked and what I did - and how much I paid for rent and for my car. (those were the only questions she asked).
She sympathized with my situation and offered me a settlement agreement of $2122.00 - which I dont have. She then offered me a three month payment of 836.00 for three months to pay it off ($2507.00) - which is almost half my monthly paycheck or a 12 mo. payment of 321.51.
She said the first payment must be paid in April - and it is now April 26th!
I explained to her that my wedding is in two weeks and that I could not make a first payment until May 15th (I didnt think this was unreasonable - is it?) They were trying to “do me the favor” of it going to the county.
Then a man gets on the phone telling me because it is so urgent on a time constraint, we need your immediate committment. I asked him why they were calling me on April 26th to ask me for a payment by the end of April - (Just a few more days) and that was unrealistic, and had they called me sooner, I may have had a chance to do more about it by the end of April. He then started YELLING at me - saying that he had been calling me since April 2nd!
I told him that I had never received any messages from him prior and he said that is because my machine would not let him leave a message and that I was a grown woman, and should have known I was in trouble for this debt.
I said back to him that there was no reason to yell, and that my home machine took messages just fine and that I was sorry if he had a machine doing the calling, but I would not have had any idea who they were just by seeing an 877 number on my caller ID - and that I would have hoped that someone would have just spoken and waited for the beep for me to call them (No-one ever has).
He continued YELLING at me saying I was twisting the situation and then I said that he needed to calm down. He then started demanding my new address and I said I would not give it to him unless he calmed down and I asked to speak back to the girl I had been dealing with that was a lot calmer.
He said NO, I dont intend on being nice and I am hanging up in 5 seconds and telling them to send it on if you dont cooperate - and then I hung up on him.
I was not going to be abused like that !!
I am scared though because Capital One got a judgement on me and then threatened to garnish my wages if I didnt pay it. So I had to take care of it at that point. The courthouse was not even in my state so I couldnt even show!
Can they do that? Garnish wages?
Any advice on what to do? - is appreciated.
Posted 26 Apr 2008 at 6:15 pm ¶In Response to “Jen” 9 April 08…Why would you work for an employer like this? Do you think one good employee is going to make a difference? You seem genuine enough and caring. You can find a better employer. Good Luck! NCO seems to prefer to pay fines when caught, rather than really change their practices. Paying fines for harassing people is just a cost of doing thier business and keeping thier execs and stockholders in profits and dividends.
Posted 26 Apr 2008 at 3:18 pm ¶877-621-2171 might be NCO also
Posted 26 Apr 2008 at 3:04 pm ¶Oh my lord people. Don’t pay these people any money!!
First, if you pay them even one penny it restarts the clock on the statute of limitations. There are other things that can restart the clock too so check with a lawyer or research it to make sure you don’t accidentally do something that would restart it. Once the statute of limitations has run out (like four years or something) then they can’t sue you.
Second, paying them anything just opens the door for them trying to get more. It’s like those scams that take advantage of the elderly. Once you have paid once then you will be hounded even harder across the board.
Calling these people scum is insulting to scum.
They will lie, cheat, intimidate and harrass. They will call your neighbors, the neighbors of your family in other states. They will call at work and leave messages with your co-workers.
Ignore them. Then ignore them some more. Eventually after a period of time with absolutely no success they will just sell your debt to some other scum for one cent on the dollar.
Don’t for a second think that if you try to be nice and talk to them they will stop being scum. If you talk to them they will just get more information out of you and then use that information against you. For example suppose you say “gee i can’t make a payment now because my father is dying of cancer and i’m spending my days at his bedside” they might sympathetically say “oh, i’m so sorry, where is he hospitalized”. If you tell them then don’t be surprised when the nurse tells your father that a collection company is looking for you about “a case”.
You think i’m joking??? I have a video of them harrassing me at my father’s funeral (CBS wan’t to do a show?).
The only saving grace here is that they are so nasty and so unreasonable that they have invariably harrassed the wrong person. In all of the calls they’ve made i’m sure they have probably gone a little too far with someone ‘connected’ and if they haven’t yet they probably will someday.
We can at least smile knowing that they probably have to check under their beds before they go to sleep at night.
Posted 26 Apr 2008 at 2:30 am ¶If they are calling your cell phone, it’s pretty simple - you add them to your phone book and select “SILENT” for their ringer! Of course they will call with another number so you’ll have to add as may numbers as it takes to maintain your sanity.
Not sure if you all have ever heard of Dave Ramsey? You can listen to his shows online… http://www.daveramsey.com He handles a lot of callers on his show that are being harassed.
As for the NCO collector thats posting on here… Do you think that calling people over and over is going to make them suddenly be able to pull money out of their ass to give to you? Get a real job!
Posted 25 Apr 2008 at 7:54 pm ¶Received two suspicious messages from NCO Financial Systems on my answering machine and immediately searched the web for more information about NCO and found your posts. I had just called them back and was placed on hold for 10 minutes at which point I hung up, and won’t be calling them back. I will persue your recommendations. Comment: is this type of operation a symptom of an economic system on the verge of collapse? A system where no one produces anything that anyone else wants to buy and therefore we become parasites feeding on those few who do? Where is the government to protect us from the piece of desease that runs this type of operation? What about a person who is not firm of mind who receives such a call from these preditors and inocently sends them money? Also is there not a possiblity that the credit reporting agency are profiting from peoples fears? Another way to make money by setting up computers and sitting back as the money rolls in. Thank you for your website and keep up the good work.

But anyways hang in there, i am sure they will stop in due time!
Posted 19 Apr 2008 at 4:43 am ¶The best bet is to play by the rules and then when they call after you’re contested the debt keep track of it. Record all conversations (ideally electronically) and the forward them to the attorney general and 60 minutes etc on cd. And when they continue to attempt contact after being told that the debt is contested or a with a cease and desist notice just keep track of this and sue them (either with an attorney or just follow up in small claims court in your homw state where the fee is low and just hope for a judgment if they don’t respond). Remember that the people who own this company have mansions, boats, planes and laugh at all the suckers they collect on for pennies on the dollar. Yet they likely have criminal connections themselves and have been cited for multiple violations by the US government … which is ironic when you look at some of the soapbox rantings posted here by some of their supposed current and past employees. It’s really just a game to make more money and remember that the top brass of these collection agencies are living the lifestyle that most of us only dream of.
Posted 18 Apr 2008 at 4:16 am ¶I just moved into a new house in a different state less than a year. Started receiving calls last month (messages) to call NCO @ 866-849-6441 regarding a debt collection. This message
Posted 18 Apr 2008 at 12:24 am ¶was left by a Ms Nelly (really hard to hear). I am absolutely sure I have no debt as I pay off all my bills. Since the message didn’t include a recipient’s name, I kinda guest it’s a scam. First thing I am going to do is obtain my credit report (from all 3 credit bureaus-they are required to give you a free copy once every year). Then I am going to call these bastards and give them hell. FYI, I believe they’ve just lost a case against them brought by PA. If you want to file a complaint, DA website from PA would be a good start. You can even do it online.
We have been getting messages from NCO for about a week. We were out of town so there were about 6 of them on our answering machine. They advised they were collecting a debt and asked us to call 866.376.1967. We have no unpaid debts so this was a surprise. Assuming they had the wrong number, we have called them 5x and all their phone does is ring. No one has ever answered. We have received nothing in the mail.

They have been calling me on my cellphone from a Private number. Since I do not answer private numbers, all I have recieved is a message telling me to call back 1-800-477-1827. now, I have not had a credit card or any other way to have debt and I figured if it was something I actually owed, they would atleast have my name and would not call from a blocked number. I looked up the company and number just to see if it was something I needed to worry about and this site is what my search came up with. I believe they have the name of who ever had this cell phone number before me, and it is most definately fraud.
Posted 09 Apr 2008 at 4:34 pm ¶Hi my name is Jen, Don’t get mad everyone, but i work for this company that you are speaking of, and yes i know how frustrating it is to get calls from them, all you have to do if you are not the debter in question is to tell them to remove the number, and i must advice you now that it will take anywhere between 24-48 hrs to remove the number completly from the file, has easy has that. In my expierience there i have had alot of rude comments and among other things thrown at myself and all i am doing is trying to do my job, you just have to remember that the people that are calling you from this company are doing is getting down to the solution on behalf of the company that hired them and its not the persons fault that called you, i just thought that i better add something to your little discusion about this. I don’t know if anyone here has ever spoken with me, but i am not a rude person, i am usually cheery, bubbly, i have been told that i am being way to nice for the kind of work that we are doing, well i don’t beleave that you are going to get anywhere being a total jerk with someone of the phone, and i don’t blame anyone here about what they are saying, because i have heard first hand from recordings of how rude some of the agents can be, and the recordings that i have heard those people have been let go from the company because it isn’t tollerated by not only state law but also the fdcpa. I hope that everyone will take the tip on telling them to just remove the number but also remember to give them the time to get out that the call is recorded for quality and so on, its required to be said, Thanks for your time everyone!

1) They called the corporate office of the company I work for and got the number for the location at which I work. They called, looking for me, while I wasn’t working and misrepresented themselves to the girl currently working by saying there was a “problem with my payroll.”
2) As a result, I unthinkingly called them back and ended up talking to the woman who originally called. She wasn’t nasty but mentioned wage garnishment, something, going by the following guidelines, they cannot do:
http://www.dol.gov/esa/regs/compliance/whd/whdfs30.pdf
3) She passed me onto some joker who played the whole sleazy, buddy-buddy used-car-salesman bit until I told him that I couldn’t consent to a payment over the phone (especially not one that was three times what they’d get if they could even legally garnish my wages), and he rattled on about how he wasn’t “playing games” and that’s the absolute lowest and that they could garnish my wages and steal my tax return and if I paid it for so long it’d be taken off my credit report (yeah, need that in writing, bud). I finally hung up on him, called the original woman back and told her they were not to call my workplace anymore (I had too higher members of management there as witnesses).
I was put in touch with a consolidation company by a lady at the college I attended, so I’ll be working to try to get everything shifted into the other company’s hands. Meanwhile, I’ll be sending a cease and desist order to NCO, after contacting the attorney general.

I was getting calls for a spanish girl on my cell phone. I asked the lady ‘do I sound spanish? I don’t know her, and she no longer has this number. after they called for 2 weeks straight, I cursed them out, and they promised again to remove the number. they called again and I threatened to sue the collector, his supervisor, and the owner.
Posted 17 Mar 2008 at 4:39 pm ¶I then added them to my address book in the phone as ‘NCO assholes’ and changed the voicemail greeting to ‘ hi this is tom, crystal no longer has this phone, if you are the braindead idiots from nco financial go bother someone else’
they finally quit calling after 10 days
P.S. This is an old debt that was supposed to be settled anyway through some other company that evidently did not get settled. It was btwn him and his ex. The point I guess is he is harrassing me! I am sick of it. My bf has told them over and over he pd it or whatever, it doesn’t matter what the heck is going on there with his bill, I don’t care either, I just want that guy,Keith, to not harrass me.
Posted 17 Mar 2008 at 3:52 pm ¶I live with my boyfriend and this creditor keeps calling. I have told him I am not his wife. He doesn’t care. He yells and screams at me and harrasses me to no end. He asks me where he is (I don’t know all the time), what time he left, when he’ll be home, what number is he at, what is his cell # (I tell him he doesn’ have one - he doesn’t), and more…He tells me (he left a # a long time ago, very long ago) that he left the number & he never called back. I tell him it is between him & bf. I only write the message. He tells me that again, then yells at me and says in a stern yelling tone, “Well I told YOU!” It has been 1 thing after another! The other night he called at 2 minutes before 9. My bf was at a mtg for something. What shoud I do? Is there anything I can do? The guy says it is my responsibility, etc… I’ve been hanging up on him. He has even yelled at my child is almost 9 yrs. It is the same guy over and over again! We don’t have caller i.d. I know a lot probably do dread calling, but he seems to enjoy harrassing me and threatning me! I am like that other lady ready to have a nervous breakdown. I have to answer incase the school calls or something. It horrible!

Posted 10 Mar 2008 at 3:33 pm ¶We all know, as a whole we have little use or concern for a bill collector. Particularly if they’re trying to collect on a debt you paid off last year.
Truth is, they’re probably making the calls, hating every one of them, when they get called a name and compared to the sloppy, warm cow dung in the field, etc. Hell of it is they have to make a living the same as we do and believe me, if I had to settle for a collections job, I’d be buried under hard times. There would not be one other job available, even that of a street sweeper.
NCO must have moved out of town in the middle of the night because the return address on my “we’re going to shot your dog, run over your cat and throw your wife over a cliff into the sea to be fed upon by sharks” on my notice is:
Posted 09 Mar 2008 at 3:57 am ¶NCO Financial Systems
5100 Peachtree Industrial Blvd
Suite L
Norcross, GA 30071
What worked for me was just telling them, “let’s go to Court a-hole. Until then don’t bother me.”
I typically mark their notice as “not living at this address” or “Deceased” and drop in a mail box outside my zip code area. This typically screws them for two or three months at a time, time after time.
800-477-1827 there are just way too many numbers they have been using and anonymous call too.
Posted 08 Mar 2008 at 11:52 pm ¶i just moved here a few months ago, i DEFINITELY do not have any debts. How the hell did they get my number and how can we put a STOP to this. The calls are IRRITATING!!!!!! HELP!!!!
Posted 08 Mar 2008 at 11:51 pm ¶re: payyourbills
A “payment of intent” reaffirms the debt and restarts the statute of limitations in every state I know of. This is a trick, you send them even a dollar on a $5000 debt and the statute of limitations is reset and they can take you to court for the full amount.
Posted 06 Mar 2008 at 5:59 am ¶Understand that NCO has purchased these debts, they are +not+ calling on behalf of anyone but themselves. If the debt is beyond the statute of limitations they have paid maybe 1 or 2 cents on the dollar, maybe less. The original lender is out of the picture, AMEX (or who ever) will not get 1 dime of what you pay. The money goes to NCO.
They usually do not have the paperwork on the debt, only the amount and last payment date. They cannot produce legal proof that the debt is real. It’s a bluff, these people could make a fortune at poker.
Paying them can actually hurt your credit. After 7.5 years an unpaid debt disappears from your credit report. If you pay them a reduced amount this is a new entry on your credit report and will remain there for another 7.5 years. It will hurt when you try to get a mortgage or other credit.
DO NOT TALK TO THEM OVER THE PHONE. THEY WANT TO TRICK YOU INTO REAFFIRMING THE DEBT AND RESETTING THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS. IT’S A TRAP. That’s why they try to avoid paper. Don’t fall for it. All correspondence should be done in writing. Do not provide personal information to them over the phone, wait for the letter and don’t add to what they already have.
Posted 06 Mar 2008 at 5:50 am ¶Can NCO be sued for giving someone a nervous breakdown? And I mean that with 100% seriousness.
They have my cellular phone number and sometimes their auto-dialer calls me 2-3 AN HOUR, and up to 15-20 times a day from various numbers. It starts right on 8:00 pacific time, and lasts into the evening up until 9:00 pacific time.
The constant and relentless calls are nerve racking. I’m already being treated for a nervous condition and the repeated and nonstop hammering from them is seriously exasperating my condition.
My cell phone was meant for emergencies only as well, and to have it firing off every 15-30 minutes from NCO makes me furious.

Posted 03 Mar 2008 at 10:53 pm ¶I started receiving calls from 1-800-273-6816 in early Feb 08. I thought they were telemarketers until one day I answered and it was a recorded message. I called the number back with my “reference number”, and come to find out I had a “debt” from a credit card company. The unfortunate thing is that I never even knew that I had this debt. I paid that CC company almost $8K to pay off the balance last June. Unfortunately, that was not the whole amount - i was about $90 short. I NEVER received another bill, and six months later, that $90 became about $350 and the bank charged it off at the end of the year - hence the collection agency. I’m not a person with a history of not paying bills. Nonetheless, the guy was very rude to me and I didn’t appreciate that at all. A loan officer told me once that it is worse for your credit to pay off a collection agency that it is to have a charge off. I don’t know if that is true or not.
Posted 03 Mar 2008 at 8:34 pm ¶Hey, wdg1021 why don’t you just answer the phone and make arrangemts to pay your bill? Do people know that you don’t have to pay balance in full today that you can make arrangements to settle the debt over a 1-6 months? let them transfer you to other people it’s called getting a talk off. negotiate the amount and term MAKE OFFERS be ready to settle for between 45-85% of the balance. the older the bill the bigger discount on the settlement. my suggestion when calling is to get a prepaid phone with voice mail on it and give that number to the collector. never turn it on. just let them call it and leave a message. other wise call from work or a payphone since it is a toll free number. keep negotiating over time don’t get fooled by whats called urgency. collectors want to collect your bill this month. you have to realize that you do need to make some kind of payment this month make a payment of intent if you cant pay the first part of the settlement say you are going to settle for $500 every month for 3 months, but you make this arrangment too late in the month. offer to make a payment of intent or a payment to show good faith offer $100. try to send the good faith payment western union quick collect or money gram. the collector will try to get you to put a check on file tell the collector you need to see your arrangment in writing and have it faxed to you. also when you are done paying it off have a paid in full or settled in full letter faxed and sent to you. get everything in writing. follow my advice and you’ll save money and not have a bad experience with the collector. be polite on the phone they are just trying to antagonize you in to just giving up and paying thinking their is no other way out. don’t induldge it if they are really rude hang up call back untill you get a different collector or ask for a manager. keeping talking to different people till you get what you want. don’t be affraid to hang up and call back. keep working at it. they will eventually meet your number.
Posted 02 Mar 2008 at 4:27 pm ¶if the statute of limitations has run out on the debt a debt collection agency can still try to collect it, they just cant sue you for it anymore in civil court. you always have the MORAL obligation to pay a debt, just not always a legal one. YOU SHOULD PAY YOUR BILLS!!!!
Posted 02 Mar 2008 at 4:13 pm ¶if you think the debt is not yours ask to verify by social security number. i am a collector for nco and we have your ssn thats why we have your credit report. if the debt is not yours don’t worry about it tell them you have the wrong number and to stop calling also send a cease and desist letter certified mail. i am sorry to all the wrong numbers that get called i don’t want to be calling a wrong number but poeple change their number fast and directories move slower. it is the debtor’s responsibility to keep their creditor updated with phone number and address changes but they don’t so blame them. if we had the right numbers to call wrong numbers wouldn’t happen. The fact of the matter is that most debtors don’t want to be found. they don’t want to pay their bill or they would call us. there are MILLIONS and MILLIONS of these bad debts. why don’t they get paid? if they were owed to you personally would you want them to be paid?

Information for all your readers….I have been investigating this company (NCO)along with several others, including Asset Acceptance for a family member of mine that is getting harrassed constantly by phone calls. This is the information that I have found:
The statute requires that the debt collector obtain verification of the debt and mail it to the consumer. Because one of the principal purposes of this is to help consumers who have been misidentified by the debt collector or who dispute the amount of the debt, it is important that the verification of the identity of the consumer and the amount of the debt be obtained directly from the creditor. Mere itemization of what the debt collector already has does not accomplish this purpose. As stated above, the statute requires the debt collector, not the creditor, to mail the verification to the consumer.
Under the FDCPA, you are allowed to validate this debt, and the creditor (in this case, the collection agency) must show you proof that you owe the debt to the collection agency (not to the original creditor.) Plus, they must show proof positive that you owe them this debt. It’s not enough to send you a computer-generated printout of the debt. Nor can they ask you to pay for digging up records of your debt:
o Proof that the collection company owns the debt/or has been assigned the debt,
o Complete payment history, starting with the original creditor, and
o Copy of the original signed loan agreement or credit card application
So, if a creditor can’t verify a debt:
• They are not allowed to collect the debt,
• They are not allowed to contact you about the debt, and
• They are also not allowed to report it under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Doing so is a violation of the FCRA, and the FCRA states that you can sue for $1,000 in damages for any violation of the Act.
The Debt Validation Strategy
It might be helpful to look at our illustration of the process before you get started. You might also want to read this, sort of our own “validation” of the process given here.
1 Send a letter requesting validation to the collection agency.
2. If you don’t know the address of the collection agency, it is easy to look up on the internet.
3. Dispute the collection with the credit bureaus.
4. Wait 30 days to hear back from the collection agency. Most likely they will not respond or they will respond saying that they received your letter. Only a letter which includes:
o Proof that the collection company owns the debt/or has been assigned the debt,
o Complete payment history, starting with the original creditor, and
o Copy of the original signed loan agreement or credit card application
is satisfactory.
5. If they haven’t sent you satisfactory proof, send a copy of your receipt for your registered mail, a copy of the first letter you sent and a statement that they have not complied with the FDCPA and are now in violation of the Act. Tell them they need to immediately remove the collection listing from your credit report or you are going to file a lawsuit because they are in violation of the FDCPA, section 809 (b).
6. Wait 15-20 days to hear back after this second letter to the collection agency. They will either remove it or not respond.
7. If they do provide a contract with a signature from the original creditor showing that you owe the debt, there is one more thing you can try: see if they are legally licensed to collect the debt in your state.
If you believe that they are not licensed, and licensing is required in your state, write them another letter and tell them they are in violation of your state’s collection laws and are subject to prosecution and fines. Cite your state’s fines and procedures in the letter. This is a last ditch effort, but has worked in some cases.
8. Typically, your work will stop here, as most legitimately legal collection agencies will bow down to your demands and send you a letter agreeing to remove the listing. Now all you have to do is send a copy of the letter to the CRAs.
If the collection agency did not agree to remove the listing, then you need to continue to the next steps.
Posted 01 Mar 2008 at 5:39 am ¶9. File a lawsuit in small claims court against the collection agency on the basis of violating the FDCPA.
10. Have the papers served to the collection agency. (You can find a paper server on the internet for about $25). Here is a good link. And here is another: http://www.1-800-serve-em.com/servicemap.html
11. In the meantime, in a parallel effort with your lawsuit against the collection agency:
12. If the collection comes back as “verified” from the credit bureaus, you now have proof of further collection activity from the collection agency. (The assumption is that the credit bureau contacted the collection agency to verify the debt.) Since the collection agency did not validate the debt, further collection activity is a violation of the FDCPA.
13. Contact the credit bureaus, and tell them that the creditors did not verify the debts under the FDCPA, and send copies of your proof. Request the method of verification, which is your right under the FCRA. It is crucial to contact the credit bureaus before filing a lawsuit. Make sure you state that the collection agency did not respond to your request for debt validation.
14. You can try sending them a letter to see if they will budge. They may tell you that the request needs to come from the creditor. This is baloney. If they can’t give you reasonable information on how they verified the information and the collection agency has provided you none, you can conclude there was no reasonable investigation performed. They are teetering on the edge of “willful non-compliance” under the FCRA. Tell them so.
15. File a suit in small claims, state or federal court. The basis of the lawsuit should be that the credit bureaus could not provide a satisfactory method of verification, or did not conduct a reasonable investigation.
16. Have the papers served. (You can find a paper server on the internet for about $25). Here is a great link where you can search for the local office of the credit bureau near you. http://www.llrx.com/columns/roundup14.htm
Notify the bureaus that you are suing them. The credit bureaus will call the creditors and find out that there is a question about whether the debt is legitimate. They should delete it immediately.

I work for NCO and its an awesome job. I enjoy a high level of income and have good job security. Integrity and respect are two values extremly important to me. I believe i am a pleasure to deal with on the phone and I will bend over backwards to help borrowers that want to reach a compromise.
I realize wrong numbers get called it happened to me i have a very common name and a collection agency kept calling me. I contacted them and it didn’t stopped. I just called my cell phone provider explained the situation and the rep on the phone issued me a new number for FREE. I know its an inconvience, but collection agencies are crutial to the economy.
If bad debts didn’t get collected on then more and more people would default and cause all of our intrest rates to rise. I realize there are bad collectors that break the laws, but most don’t. There are lots of people on this board that feel they’ve been wronged. If you truly feel that way and have a legal basis then sue. Many lawyers will take on a good case to sue a collection agency for FREE. My point is there are solutions for everyone out there that may take a little time and committment but are the right thing to do. Most of the the the right the to do is not the easiest. Change your number. Sue. Pay your bill. Send a cease and desist letter. Take action and DO the RIGHT thing.
Just my 2 cents.
Posted 29 Feb 2008 at 4:36 am ¶Hello nco collector: (for the benefit of everyone else):
Posted 27 Feb 2008 at 8:04 pm ¶Not sure which FDCPA you are referring to (maybe some fictitious one you were trained on), but the actual federal law in no way, anywhere, permits a collector to call all day, everyday, if there is no answer. In fact, repeated telephone calls are explicit violations under the law. There is no law, anywhere, requiring anyone to answer any call from anyone at any time, much less a collection agency. Nor is anyone obligated to speak to, or say word one, to a collection agency. By calling all day, everyday, a collector is violating MULTIPLE federal laws (and probably the debtor’s home state laws), primarily 15 USC sec. 1692 (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act-FDCPA). I have personally experienced this, having received over 500 calls from NCO over a 4 week period. That’s right: 500! Unfortunately for NCO, I have the records to prove it. Not only have I reported them to my state atty. general, but the PA atty. general, FTC, and several of the trade associations they claim to be members of on their website (ncogroup.com). [All of the associations have a complaint process against members. It's funny too, they all have "codes of ethics" members must adhere to. Yeah, right. They're debt collection associations. I'll hold my breath to see what happens.] I am also suing them in civil court. Perhaps if enough other people do the same, something will happen. You can take them to small-claims and do it for cheap. Just know your rights and have ample evidence to back up your claims. KEEP RECORDS OF EVERYTHING!!! How this company continues to keep their doors open is utterly beyond me. If I or my company broke the law in our industry, we’d be shut down before we knew what hit us. Court records show that NCO has been sued over 1000 times, by everyone from individuals, to class actions, to the Commonwealth of PA, and the Federal Govt. They have injunctions against them from violating the FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act), and did settle federal charges for $1.50 million dollars for violating the FCRA. They also have a settlement agreement on record with The Commonwealth of PA obliging them to adhere to their obligations under FCRA and FDCPA. (Google it all). BY THE WAY: It is also a federal offense under 47 USC, sec. 227 (b)(1)(B) to initiate any call to any residence using a pre-recorded device to leave a message, and another federal offense under 47 USC, sec. 223 (a)(1)(D) and (E) to cause a telephone to ring repeatedly or to utilize telecommunication devices to place such calls (ie. telephone harassment). Obviously check with a competent attorney to validate any of this, I AM NOT GIVING LEGAL ADVICE. In short, “nco collector”, unfortunately you don’t know what you are talking about, and I hope you have since left the collection business, so that you can move on with your life and stop being subjected to abuse. If not, be aware that you can be named a direct party to civil action if any is brought against your company. I hope this all helps someone out there. There has to be a way to shut this abonimable company down, and I have decided to make it my mission to find out how!
I have found that the best way to deal with these debt collectors is to send a validation letter. You can get an example at:
http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/Disputing_Collections/initial-dispute-letter.html
Then, if they call without verifying the debt, you keep copies of all the call dates & times and, according to the FDCPA, they are liable for up to $1000 per call after they receive the letter. Send 2 copies, one regular and one certified, return receipt. That way you have a receipt of when they received it.
You can also send a “Do Not Call Letter” which you can get on the same site:
http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/Disputing_Collections/stop-calling-letter.html
Once again, if they fail to follow the request, there is a penalty for each call after the request is received by them.
Unfortunately, you must usually answer the phone for their calls and verbally dispute the debt. That way, they need to send you a letter about the debt, if they haven’t already.
I am not advocating not paying your debts, but sometimes it requires fighting for your rights against companies like this, ESPECIALLY if they have PURCHASED the debt from your original creditor. That happened to me - I was paying off my credit cards from college through a CCCS with payment arrangements through all of my cards. One bank sold the debt, even though payments were being made. It is now in litigation, even though the amount they are trying to collect is, according to my records, is incorrect. It is a time-consuming process, but can be worth it in the end if it ends.
NCO, CRS, Asset Acceptance (now calling themselves AIS) have had major problems in the past and now collecting debts. AIS is even trying to collect a debt after ignoring a validation letter (they replied by asking for a SS# and tons of personal information, like looking it up by name, address and phone number weren’t enough).
Well, that’s my 2 cents (all I can AFFORD to give with the litigation :-)

Posted 25 Feb 2008 at 10:11 pm ¶1-800-709-8625
1-800-394-3194
I have a new phone number, perhaps it belonged to somebody else who had debt, however they will not stop calling the number. I called the 800 numbers and both times encountered the same extremely rude and unhelpful secretary/operator. Twice she transfered me to a recording while I was in mid-sentence asking them not to call me anymore, then I called from a phone that has caller-ID blocked, and nobody picked up at all, it went straight to the recording.
My tenants call me to say that NCO is calling them about a bad debt. This debt was from a prior tenant who has long since moved. I’ve called NCO several times to tell them that the person they’re looking has moved and no longer resides at that adr./phone number. They assured me that they would take their debtor off their calling list. But they keep calling.
Posted 25 Feb 2008 at 1:17 pm ¶What’s with these idiots?! How do I get them to stop harassing my tenants?
I used to work years ago for NCO. Yes they are rip-offs and will try to charge your accounts off to file legal fees. They hire anyone off the streets to collect on debt. Please, dont give them your personal information. You have no idea who is on the other side of the phone.
Posted 25 Feb 2008 at 12:27 am ¶NCO has started on me in the last week. They are using a caller ID of “Budget Cleaning” 1-800-956-4638
Posted 24 Feb 2008 at 3:00 am ¶I’ve been getting automated calls from NCO for a few weeks now #1-800-860-4200, and it’s never a person, even if I answer it, just the automated message telling me to call back. I know I don’t have any outstanding debt (I had a problem a few years ago that get paid off the beginning of ‘07 with a different credit company) and I haven’t gotten anything in the mail or anything specifically with my name on it, I’d love to just keep ignoring them but the phone calls are just getting ridiculous now. Does sending the cease and desist letter actually work? or am I going to actually have to eventually call these people back?
Posted 23 Feb 2008 at 7:41 pm ¶I have been taunted by many NCO personel and it is a very nerve racking feeling, a sinking feeling everytime the phone rang. I tried to ignore it kinda like the “heartbeat under the floor in EdgarA Poe” they called me at work as well as 8am to 9pm. They recorded my voice everytime i spoke to them. I just received another call from a Mr.Frank. or people like David Spillman (NCO). It’s a fuckin nightmare. But then again I have been iresponsible for them hounding me. So i can this, They use a automated dialing system in the morning at 7am, then when they had their coffee i assume the get bigger balls and converse with you in a rude way. I can see it now, I new Yahoo at NCO is getting advise from a overweight , donut consuming piece of lard telling him you must talk down to these people and give them misguided information. Oh yeah they fly under RADAR on all of the conversation. That is why they monitor the calls they make ( low beeps in the back ) All in all if you can pay these fucks what they want the they will stop. They do make you feel like shit, so like cancer use the family as chemo and rid these mutations from your life. If you are worried about telling your spouse or family about this. don’t. Just tell them and getthe funds. They will NOT stop. and mailing a letter is only adding salt to the wound. you will have your day in court trust me it’s happening to me next week.

Posted 22 Feb 2008 at 5:51 pm ¶NCO contacted us at an address re: a debt that is not mine. I have not contacted NCO since they don’t have my name or phone number, only my address. I never owed this debt to begin with, and I don’t want my name associated with someone else’s debt. I have filed complaints with the state atty gen. Anyone else have a similar experience? What should one do if they don’t owe the debt to begin with? I don’t want my credit tarnished b/c of someone else’s old debt.
Posted 22 Feb 2008 at 5:08 pm ¶I have read most if not all of the complaints and am shocked that people are so cruel and foul mouthed on the internet as well as the phones. I understand alot of your frustrations but most collectors are not rude and are geniunely tryng to help people get out of collections. Collections is not a easy thing to do but it is a job. We have bills too and it isn’t personal. So the name calling and racial slurs isn’t necessary. People do call wrong numbers the company is not tryng to make you pay someone else’s debt, it is just a wrong number and as far as getting 3 and 4 calls a day..yes that is ridiculous and we dont agree with it but per fdcpa a call can be placed everyday all day if there is no answer. If u are getting calls from nco and you tell them it is a wrong number most likely the rep has removed it and another dept has a debt which explains the different numbers….no nco dept has more than one number. To address the people who do owe the debts… it is understandable that people fall on hard times but it is a debt that u owe and should pay without being threatened to do so…put yourself in the creditors position if someone owed you money they would probably get more than a phone call or a letter. I just have one request can we all be adults on the phone because the name calling isnt getting anything solved and it only making the person doing it look childish.
Posted 22 Feb 2008 at 3:33 am ¶Please everyone follow these directions.
Posted 22 Feb 2008 at 3:21 am ¶Call NCO back on those toll free numbers you have. Call them and call them and call them …non stop, over and over again. Call till it hurts. Keep them on the phone as long as possible. Put their number on redial…… you get the idea. PLEASE do this. If everyone does this they’ll get the idea.
It’s me again. I’m still recieving “no ID” calls and when I answer, they leave a message with this contact number 800-707-2637 and codes. When I call back no one answers or “we are not available at this moment” recorded messages, etc.
I’m worried because here people are complaining about being harrased, with their credit ruined, and no solution at all even when they don’t owe a dollar, and even if they send the certified, return-receipt cease and desist letter. It’s unbelievable people must hire a company to delete the false negative info off the credit report…
So, if anyone can tell me: is the only final solution to get a lawyer for this? Did any of you find a way to stop those guys?
Posted 21 Feb 2008 at 7:45 pm ¶This is to the NCO collection scumbag that wrote in that it’s your fault that your in debt thing. What about us that ARE NOT IN DEBT that regularly get phone calls from NCO asking for someone that we don’t know. I have talked to at least 7 different people and explained that the person they are seeking does not have this number. Does it help? NO! The “dumbasses” still call! So don’t tell me that your only trying to collect a debt lady!! Quit that company before somebody goes postal!! If you are receiving letters or calls from NCO and you have no debt, write to 60 minutes like I did and perhaps they will do a story on the corruption of NCO.

Its a company of NCO,right?
They have reported incorrect negative information on my credit report for years. They Never sent me a letter, bill or anything. They never validated the debt, They just have been reporting it for years, while adding large amounts to the original owed and
reaging the debt so it stays on longer,
even putting false date of last activity on my credit report.
The number shows up a few times a year,
so they don’t call very often.
Once I answered a cell phone with a
Florida number and it was some Guy
asking when we were going to pay
Asset Acceptance. I said I do Not owe
it, they never validated it and hung up. I have not heard from them since.
However they have ruined my credit report for years, causing me damages,
I have not been able to buy a home in
years because of them. I cannot even get a 300 dollar loan, because of them.

Another number for NCO: 215-436-8621 This one did not come up in searching this page or Call Ferret.
NCO is attempting to contact me on an account that has been closed for at least 8 years now. At least that’s how far back my finacial records go, but it is more likely longer than that. I even looked at my credit reports for the past few years (yes, I save them) and cannot find the original creditor, to whom NCO says I owe, on any of them.
I received a letter from NCO a couple weeks ago, out of the blue. I was going to ‘just throw it away’, but glad I waited and came across this web page. I sent NCO a “Cease & Desist” letter, which I know NCO has received by the Return Receipt. NCO still continues to call. I have my phone set to “Restrict Incoming Calls Except Contacts” (phone only rings if caller is in my contacts list, but shows only in my missed calls). So, I do not know anyone outside of my contacts called unless I look at my missed calls list. I am logging the dates/times & numbers which NCO uses in attempting to contact me. This page helps me identify all the different numbers NCO uses so I can be sure the calls came from NCO and the call was not a telemarketing or some other business call.
Note to NCO: “Please keep calling me, and please write again soon. I will be turning over my paper trail and logs to my attorney in the near future.”

Posted 11 Feb 2008 at 9:28 pm ¶We had a death in the family so I flew to the NW from the South to be with my family. I answer the phone a few minutes past 8aM!!! on a Saturday morning to listen to a freakin automated dialer requesting that I call back ‘ms.griffith’ @ 866-284-6832 — of course I don’t live here… of course i blocked the number… and of course they have no idea where to go UNTIL you give them your phone number so they can harass you. So I said some nice things about the 10-15 dollar an hour bottom feeding whore that they are and the company…. and hung up… then called back… again… Really grinds my gears that on a weekend morning these lunatics crank up the autodialer to see what poor souls they can have return their calls which are nothing more than poorly baited hooks. ALSO… after looking up some info about the company I discover that they make their money by purchasing illegitamit or ancient debts and then try to find a way to get payment…when they are either not valid or past all statutes of limitations… and perhaps the 1.5 million they paid to the ftc didn’t sting enough to let them know… I wish their was something else I could do other than call them back and waste their little phone peoples time with my animosity. They are truly not at fault - it is the egomaniac brainiac executives that watch the numbers as the people in the trenches do all the nasty work. Those people need to get dinged with another hefty penalty… i probably wouldnt be so ticked if I wasnt staying at my younger sisters house… who had excellent financial history…and is the family member that passed away - I have enough people calling for the inherent reasons…I dont need a company (only by simple definition) that operates like this to call me on a weekend so early…and for NOTHING
I would love to pursue this company when I return home and see if I cant create some problems for them. Very bad timing on their part…
back to bed =\

This was before many merchants were using electronic terminals. NCO was informed via CERTIFIED/RETURN RECEIPT MAIL to stop all contact. I havent heard a thing from them since 2004. Now they are bombarding me with these phone messages. This company is once again breaking the law. FYI The government uses this illegal company to collect on delinquent educational loans.
I filed complaints with the attorney gen, and numerous other agencies. Waiting for replies. I am also filing suit against NCO and seeking class action status. NYC Area.

Since I don’t have any past due or collections accounts, I figured they were either a scam or called my number by mistake. When I called NCO, I was disconnected three times. I called back for a forth time and after I was put on hold (by a live person), I was finally able to speak to someone about this phone call. The lady, “Mrs. Nixon”, asked me what telephone number I received my recorded message on. I told her I received two calls, one to my cell and one at home. She looked up both numbers and then asked if my name is “Dan”. Since my name is not Dan, she immediately said, sorry, “I’ll remove this number from our call list. I couldn’t believe how easy that was, which led me to believe this is all one big scam. Then, she looked up my home number, and this time she asked me if my name is “Alan”, which it is. But when she looked up to see why I received a call, she came back and said, “I don’t see any file for you. Sorry, I’ll remove that number as well”.
I think, these guys are “fishing”. They get/buy phone lists and call people claiming they have a debt they owe. I’m sure there are people out there that will give them SSN/DOB any any other personal info that NCO asks for. The way I see it, if they have my file then they alresy have all the info they need and they don’t need to ask me any personal questions.
Watch these guys!!!!!

The bill was from 2002, and they mailed me about it today almost 6 years later. If it isn’t enough to charge me for something that’s so old, their charging me for something that happened when I was 15 and wasn’t eligible for credit. I’ll fight this to the death.
Thank you writing this blog. You are truly doing great work. NCO is simply the mafia. Their loan sharks beating people up for owning money (even if their reasons aren’t legit). I can’t thank you enough for this. This is why the internet and blogs are so wonderful. Thank you again.
ps, I also feel inclined to suggest a documentary film called “Maxed Out” In the film they actually go behind the scenes with a company that does work similar to NCO. Overall it’s an excellent film about credit card culture in America. They also tackle how bogus credit ratings really are. I’m sure anyone here would be interested in this film, if they haven’t seen it already.

Reasons I suspected this call was fraudulent: (1) I have no outstanding debt; (2) my credit rating was in the 790s last fall; (3) the voice message was recorded and yet included a “case reference number.”
Things that further clued me in per my attempts to reach someone and discuss the “matter”: (1) I was disconnected the first few times I called NCO’s number; (2) The first time I got a live voice, the “CSR” used the clipped version of my full first name (rather than than my legal first name) AND, when I immediately said I had no outstanding debt, the phone line went dead; (3) I called a number of times after the first initial live contact and the line was busy; (4) When I got through again, I spoke with another CSR, who apologized for being “cut off” and said NCO’s lines were not working correctly. I told her that I had contacted the Better Business Bureau and that I would “report them” if I didn’t resolve the nature of NCO’s call. I was transferred back to the first CSR with whom I spoke, who now referred to me by new first and last names — neither of which was mine. When I asked why the name associated with my landline had changed from my actual name to a new one, the CSR told me that NCO’s phone lines were not working correctly. The line then went dead. (4) I called one last time to request that my phone number be removed from NCO’s files. Again, I was referred to by the erroneous name NCO’s CSRs started using after my initial contact. The CSR said that the phone number would be removed.
I am following up by sending NCO a certified, return-receipt cease and desist letter (as recommended here and by the BBB.) I am also ordering a copy of my Credit Report.

My mother finally called back and Sharon demanded my phone number and my mother is like you already talked to her and Sharon said no I didn’t. My mother asked for her manager. Her manager gets on and my mother let them have it. She siad you can’t be doing this, this has nothig to do with me and you need to stop calling here. You are a fraud and you are trying to steal from people and peoples identity. She told her boss she kepts calling her and she needs to stop and she nees to stop asking for her phone number she already spoke to her. SHe said she is rude and nasty. Sharon’s boss asked her and she finally admited that she did have it and continued to try to play that she was justified in trying to talk to me because I used profanity when I talked to her. Well I told her about 10 times in one call I couldnt’ talk to her and she said then why is she bothering. Well she must still feel like she needs to continue to bother us. I have filed a complaint and my debt relief agency/attorney has sent them a letter but they haven’t stopped.
What do we do just because we are trying our best to pay back the debts which they know they act like we are criminals. I mean they can see either some of us are working on paying it or we are in a program to pay it. I am not a harden criminal and liek she said I pay my other bills on time.

They can keep passing to other collectors until the Statute of Limitations (where they cannot sue you) has run and you tell them to Cease and Desist. It’s based on what you know (or do not) as always with the legal contest. It is a contest, you know, or you wouldn’t have to look for the “best” lawyer.
Posted 25 Jan 2008 at 3:04 pm ¶I was contacted today by NCO under the number (866)849-2438. I was at work at the time, and there was no message left. I must first explain that I have had two debts, which I fully admit, but both of which have been paid IN FULL. I have letters of receipt, as well as the charges to prove this. It was a nightmare to have these two debts finally over and done with. I ran from creditors, calls from collections agencies, out of fear of facing my mistakes. When I finally did this earlier this month, the relief I felt having paid my debts was enormous. I felt as though I would no longer have to fear answering the phone, applying for a bank account, or purchasing a car. Because, although these were negative activity on my credit report, I knew that they had been paid in full, not settled.
When I received this call today, I returned it on my break, wondering who would be attempting to contact me via an 866 area code. When my call was answere, a woman (pressumably) answered, and spoke so fast I could not understand a word she said. I stammered out, “Hi, yes, I received a call from this number?” and was immediately transfered. When my call was taken off hold, another woman spoke, once again, at a completely uncomprehensible speed. I said, “Yes, I received a call from this number?”, to which I BELIEVE she replied, “hold please”. I was placed back on hold, or what I believed to be hold, for a moment, before I was completely hung up on.
Before tonight I had never seen my credit report. However, after reading many posts on here, I decided to get one. I thought that maybe this is simply someone trying to collect on my ex’s debt to a hospital, and he did in fact give out my number, as we were together at the time. However, I found that an inquiry was made into my credit by NCO Financial in October. I paid my bill this month to Nations Financial. I have no idea what they want. I have no idea who to contact at this point. And I have no interest in trying to communicate with people that speak at such a speed so as to be deliberately incomprehensible. I have no idea what to do. Thankfully, they only called me once today, but the inquiry into my credit tells me that they will be back, most definitely.
Just a word of advice, coming from a 20-something with a lot of fear, and little knowledge: for all of the younger ones out there, if you get yourself into trouble, no matter how scared you are, handle it. Take care of it. Because you do not need to lose sleep over this. Just own up to your mistakes, pay off your debts, and learn the lesson that you have taught yourself. I spent far too much time running. The feeling that I had the day I knew that I had paid all of my debts was indescribable. I was beyond relieved, and proud of myself for finally growing up and taking responsibility for my previous irresponsible behavior. Thankfully, the woman that contacted me, with whom I finally paid all of my debts, was extremely kind to me. It was simply business to her. She didn’t judge me, she didn’t harass me, none of it. I was definitely lucky.

Posted 22 Jan 2008 at 11:32 pm ¶Ok these people are jerks. The woman whose name is Sharon is a complete bitch. She called my parents and left messages then when my mom called back asked for my number and wouldn’t tell her what it is with regards to do and was down right nasty. I called her yesterday and went off on her because she leaves the worse messages of hateful ness and won’t say who she’s with and says i need to call her right away. Then calls me a little girl and yells at me and tells me to pay my bill. I am in a debt program and they are working with the creditor directly. SHe then insist I tell her who I am owrking with and tries to say you have to tell me. I’m like no I odn’t and I’m not going to talk to you she continued to yell and I even told her to “f” you. She was so nasty. I told her I am reporting you to the FTC then she continued to yell at me and continued on and on, I sai dI don’t have to tell you and thne she say s then why am I talk ing to you. SO i hung up the phone. THe first call I let her have it I didn’t care who she was with. When I asked what it was in regards to she says very bitchy well I have to chedk I don’t know right off the bat. I was liek lose the attitude and when she continued to call me a little girl I said I am a woman and that’s when she continued to yell and i said f you. She continued some more then as I was trying to hang the phone up she hug up and then called back and left me and even nastier vociemail saying I can’t al;k to her like that. When I calle dher back after speaking with my debt consellor (sorry) she was like did you calm down and wouldn’t let me get a word in edge wise. I told her I was reporting you and I ave nothing to say to you then she pulled up my crediut report and was like you have good credit other then this an disaid I know then why dont’ you pay I said thats none of your business, and please dont’ call me again. I told her this the first call and the second. Continued to repeat it and then finally she was like why am I talking to you. I said i don’t know and i hung up the phone. Sharon needs to learn som emannors and get an attitude adjustment majorly. This firm is horrible. I have reported them to the FTC and I wish someone would force them out of business. She doesn’t tell you who she works for and says she can’t say what it’s in reference to. Well no offense I don’t call people back unless they tell me who they work for and second the only reason I called her back is to tell her to stop harassing my family and calling there. She got my cell phone number and kept leaving me deceitful messages. oh well HERE IS THE NUMBER I GOT
877-459-9354.
Hint!! If you call them back use *67 before dialing the number and they won’t see your number otherwise they haave caller id and will bug you non stop from whatever phone you use. Including work.

716-636-1588 was the number on my caller ID.
The first time I got a call, they were looking for someone else. The second time they called, they wanted to claim that this same individual referred to me as a friend. I’ve never had anyone with this name as a friend in my life. I said there are many people with the same name as mine, and the caller acknowledged that there are probably many who have the same name as the individual they were looking for. I hope this is the last time I hear from them, but somehow I won’t count on it.
Posted 21 Jan 2008 at 9:42 pm ¶Around Christmas time, I received a letter from NCO stating I owed a debt from Provident bank which I know I did not owe. Anyhow, I sent them a polite letter immediately via registered mail stating that I requested validation and mentioned the appropriate paragraph of the fair debt collection act. About a month later, I received a letter from them stating the the account was closed in their office and they have not reported it to any credit reporting agency (which is true, I just checked). However, I noticed that I now have a hard inquiry from them on Experian from Aug 07. I am wondering how they are able to do this?? Is this against the law or is there something I can do? Can I or should I dispute this?

Posted 19 Jan 2008 at 7:46 pm ¶On Christmas Eve, I got a letter from these souless mutants claiming I owed over $7,000 for a debt, which I never had. The story gets more bizarre. Immediately, I went online freaking out and looking for a copy of my credit report. I thought maybe someone fraudulently used my credit information to obtain a loan for which I had no knowledge. Nothing was on my credit report. It was spotless. Apparently, NCO acquired the debt from a major bank, one through which I recently took out a business credit card. I called the bank, who had no record of the account number that was written on the letter from NCO. So how did NCO acquire the alleged account??? It is very difficult to get information from the bank, because obviously they have some blame here too.
Posted 19 Jan 2008 at 7:34 pm ¶After I sent a letter to both the bank and NCO demanding copies of the loan agreement and signature page plus itemized expenditures, I got a letter back from the bank and NCO saying that my case was closed and that they would not report it to any credit bureau. Thanks for that mistake. I had to worry about that all through the Holidays thanks to their little mistake. Corporations like these guys are way too powerful and need some kind of imposed quality control which is why I am going to file complaints in the State of Washington and wherever these guys do business. Happy New Year!

I am a research scientist. My Mom had a minor accident and I had to call ambulance to take her to hospital while she was visiting me for couple of months from my homeland. As she didn’t have medical insurance I applied for emergency Medicare as she was just a visitor and she was approved and all her medical bills were waived including the ambulance fee after she received her benefit identification card. She even went back my homeland. Now after one and a half year I got a letter from these NCO Financial Systems INC saying that I owe $ 426 to them for the ambulance service. And that they have my social security number n stuffs. I told them that I have my own medical benefits and if I need to go to hospital and it’s an emergency I have my insurance to pay for it. And that my mom’s case has been settled. She was very rude and trying to imply as if I am lying by saying how come if it was my mom then my social security and my name they got. I said that obviously my mom was my dependent and she didn’t have a social security number so I might have to fill my informations too at the hospital, as she was just a tourist here. She was trying to tell me that I would have to pay for that ambulance bill now and it wasn’t resolved. I told her if it wasn’t resolved then trust me I would have get letter from the insurance companies every 15 days. Now she want my moms benefit card number and my phone number. I checked about them online and it’s a good thing that I did. Because I found out all about NCO financial pranks.

Posted 17 Jan 2008 at 4:19 am ¶Long story…short version. NCO has me confused with another person with the same name. I contacted the credit card company who then contacted NCO and told them it was all a mistake and to stop calling me. They did…for a couple of months. Now the calls have started again, from a Bill Sawyer in Toronto, CA…# 1-888-217-9861. Interestingly, the credit card company credited my account with a nice sum of $$, as an apology for our trouble.

Thank you for this board! I have been getting non-stop calls for my brother for weeks now. Many different numbers (sorry, didn’t keep track) but they usually say NCO Financial. The other night it said UNITEDSTATIONERS and I found that strange. That’s when I found this site. I told them over and over that whatever they want they’ll have to contact my brother by mail because he’s never here. That’s not stopping them. Today my mom got a call from Reuben Swartz looking for my brother. I checked that out and discovered it’s just like NCO, only a different name and based in Chicago. By the way, my brother earns a reasonable income and can pay his bills. I’m sure these are bogus claims.

Posted 11 Jan 2008 at 5:19 pm ¶I too received a letter on 12/19/07 from NCO Horsham PA. I have excellent credit. NCO looked at my credit in August. I have no idea why they checked my credit. I own my home and my cars. I don’t carry a monthy debt. They say the former creditor is Chase/assignee of Provi and that I owe $8619.18. They also enclosed a payment coupon. I immediately contacted the Attorneys General by email in PA, NJ and Tx where I reside. They have all responded to this email and are doing an investigation about this complaint. I also sent NCO a letter of verification for this debt on 12/22/07 but they have not responded. I haven’t received phone calls. I contacted 60 Minutes the TV news program with this story of extortation.
They replied with this email;
You may send your experience with NCO and your request to have this story investigated via email to; 60m@cbsnews.com
If a 60 MINUTES producer does not contact you directly within 4 to 5
weeks, you may assume that CBS News is not going to report your story.

In my experience, I contacted the credit agency (online) and explained that the company who put the bad stuff on my credit report was unable to explain to me why specifically I owed them money. Then the credit agency tried to take it up with the “debt collector” and had no luck, and took it off my report. I think the credit agencies probably know about NCO, too.

Posted 08 Jan 2008 at 1:43 pm ¶Update for ya!
Mom and dad did have a bankruptcy about 14 years ago, and there was a Chase card involved in that bankruptcy. However, the bankruptcy has (obviously) long since been discharged, and didn’t even show up on their credit reports when they were being looked at for their mortgage. So dad got to looking at NCO himself, and wrote them (I say ‘them’, he wrote the CEO, legal department, and general letter) all letters return receipt, as well as our Attorney General here in Louisiana, the Attorney General in Pennsylvania, and the AG in New Jersey and told them that he contested the debt on the grounds that it was discharged in a 1990 bankruptcy filing.
Got a letter from NCO saying they had closed the account with them and no file was made with the major credit bureaus. The only way we think they even knew this debt existed was that TransUnion had a blurb about it on their report, but it said ‘Discharged/Closed’.
Long story short: the cease and desist letters DO work, and if you know it’s not your debt or it’s paid off, FIGHT THEM tooth and nail about it!

Anyway, they finally stopped! But someone new’s come a calling, a law firm, Hunt & Henriques. 151 Bernal Road Suite 8
San Jose, California, 95119
Their http://www.hunthenriques.com website says ‘Our firm represents creditors in situations where the obligations have become seriously delinquent with no resolution pending….” And they list NCO as a client. Yep, my invalid debt is about 20 years old.
Instead of NCOs call, H&H calls now, 800 496-5048
And after getting the 20th+ once a week automated “this is H&H please return our call….” phone message - I filed a complaint with the FTC.
Posted 29 Dec 2007 at 6:04 pm ¶A message on the answering machine from NCO asking me to call 888-211-5890 ext. 3041
Posted 29 Dec 2007 at 7:03 am ¶But also noticed there were 3 entry’s on caller ID all withing 30 min. of each call
I am a student that has been called by NCO. They say that they are not looking for me but someone named Lisa but I just thought that I would leave the numbers that they contacted me with. There are two diffferent numbers: 800-511-8671 and 800-511-8670. I hope that this may help.
Posted 28 Dec 2007 at 8:50 pm ¶We have received calls for over 1 1/2 years (avg. 20 calls/mo) to the people who used to have our phone number. I have told them repeatedly that they have not had this number for a while, yet I still get these irritating calls. It’s not even our debt but the people who used to have our phone number!! Help!
Posted 28 Dec 2007 at 5:50 pm ¶I received the same letter from NCO that seems to be going around. Is this a revised version of a chain letter? Just kidding. Knowing that I did not owe this company any money, I did check my credit report today as to the possibility of ID Theft my report is all fine and clear. I did block my number before I called the number listed on the letter 800-383-4761 and when I finally was able to speak to a real person, I asked for her first and last name, Debra Moore. Before giving any of my information I let her know that I would also be recording the call and she hung up on me. This was kind of funny. I think we should all call them 3 or 4 time each day for the next few days. Ha Ha. But maybe together we can do something real about this attempted fraud.
Posted 28 Dec 2007 at 4:56 am ¶I had a bankruptcy in Feb 1993. 6 months prior to that I had hired a bankruptcy lawyer and was told to cut up all my credit cards which I did in his office.
Posted 28 Dec 2007 at 3:10 am ¶Bankruptcy was discharged on Feb 1993. Last week I had received a letter from a collection agency named: NCO financial systems Inc. The correspondence that indicated I owed 19,397.40. On a original balance of 5,655.08! Is this collection attempt legal after 16 years? They said my last payment was on July 1992, and the card was opened in 1988. I do not remember having this credit card. They do not have any other information on this account other than this last payment I had made prior than my bankruptcy. It was also the only time they had contacted me and I live in my home 11 years now. Even other address before that I had never been contacted about this credit card. And the Interest accrued to 13,742.32! Is this attempt legal? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I also ran a credit report from three major credit bureau’s and my credit is excellent. No record of the account number was on the report from the statement NCO had sent to me. I believe this fraudulent and should be investigated. Also a letter that they had faxed us the original amount stated on the original statement is 19,397.40 and on the faxed letter the amt owed states 19,414.75. Also the interest is different as well. Something is definitely wrong here. Please investigate! I really would appreciate it.
Got a call from the bastards today. I got a recorded message from 410-986-0085. The message said i owed some debt and to call another 1800number. The funny thing is i’m 20 years old and have not a single credit card, or any other debt other than my house note which i have never missed a payment on. this is a joke. This has to be illegal.
Posted 27 Dec 2007 at 8:15 pm ¶I got a new NCO phone number 1-800-379-5209. They keep calling me for 3 days already. I didnot return the call since I don’t have any debt outstanding.
Posted 26 Dec 2007 at 11:40 pm ¶I live in Texas and the SoL is 4 years. I just got a collection letter from NCO out of NJ with an offer to pay 50% of the balance owed over 3 months. The original amount at the stated 6% interest would have been outstanding over 12 years to accumulate the balance they say I owe. I checked all 3 credit reports and I don’t have any negative items on any. I did see that NCO made a credit inquiry on my record 4 months ago. I know I don’t owe them anything.
No phone calls have started yet to my knowledge, however, I rarely answer phone calls in the evening when they come from 1-8xx- numbers. (If it’s important, they can leave a message.) I plan to send them a certified with return receipt cease and desist letter.
Here’s my question: If I wanted to file a complaint with the AG, do I do this with my AG in Texas or the AG in NJ?
Posted 25 Dec 2007 at 10:29 pm ¶I’m with Dave who posted on 12-20-07. I also received a letter in December from address: PO Box 4909, Dept. 22, Trenton, NJ 08650-4907 and an 800 number (800.383.4761). My letter also said I owed over 15K at 10% interest to them from a former creditor Chase/Assignee of Provi and that I could pay a total of over 7K in up to 3 month payments. Like Dave, I also don’t owe anyone money nor am I past-due on any accounts. I don’t even know who the original creditor is. I’ve tried calling them and the line is always busy or the voicemail box is full. This is all very strange. Some of you are being asked to pay a couple hundred dollars but they’re crazy if I’m just going to hand over $15,373.35 just because they sent a very official looking letter and a return envelope.
Posted 24 Dec 2007 at 7:10 am ¶Dave- I got the same letter on the 20th with the exact same info you posted (even the $15000 supposedly owed!, only it was addressed to my wife-we separated over 10 years ago! They are trying to scam people again- Let’s sue!
Posted 23 Dec 2007 at 4:24 am ¶BLESS YOU ALL for sharing the information!! You have SAVED Christmas for myself and my husband…we got a letter today, 12/22 and of course there’s no way you can find out anything until after 12/25 — Dave, we got the Chase/Assignee of Provi bit — saying we owe 11K and can pay half, etc. etc. The letter even used my maiden name, which I have not legally used since 1992 — and virtually no mail here at our current house is ever received under my maiden name. Part of me was wondering if they got my information from Brown University, since that’s in Providence and all of a sudden I started getting alumni magazines from them out of the blue (I only did 2.5 years there, and I figured that Brown was merely trolling for donations). We will thoroughly read through this site, take all precautions as suggested, and tell Santa to bring extra goodies to all you folks who have kept us from panicking!
Posted 22 Dec 2007 at 10:17 pm ¶Dave, I received the same letter word for word on Dec. 19th 2007. NCO said I owe $6.8619. I have no credit card debt. I sent them a letter of ‘verification of debt’. Next I will send Cease and Desist. This is an attempt at extortion. I have contacted the Attorneys General in PA, NJ, TX.Just thought you’d like to know I have the same situation.

Posted 20 Dec 2007 at 10:55 pm ¶My dad received a letter from NCO this morning. My mom opened it and read it, then started getting scared. The ‘debt’ it wants paid off is over $11,000. My parents have never had that much debt, other than their mortgage, which is less than four months old. Mom had never even heard of this card. When they get a credit card, they both get a copy of it. I went through her wallet, she went through her credit counseling folder (she and dad had some outstanding debt that they paid through a credit counseling service) and called the credit counselors. They said there was no such account that THEY had, and if WE don’t have it and THEY don’t have it, we never owed them money. The credit counselors are sending her statements from all the cards they did have. We also called our local state police troop’s fraud division. After much investigation and stumbling upon MANY websites (including this one) we figured out that it was VERY likely that this debt wasn’t even theirs. No phone calls yet - we have been lucky so far. But there were hangups at our old number, and the letter was sent to the old address. Coincidence? I think not.

Posted 20 Dec 2007 at 9:09 pm ¶Got a letter from them 12/19/07 from address: PO Box 4909, Dept 22, Trenton, NJ 08650-4909
Has anyone else received a letter from them in New Jersey? Evidentally they get in trouble in one state and move to another! I thought they were in Pennsylvania.
Letter says I owe over 15K at 10% interest to them from former creditor Chase/Assignee of Provi and that I can pay a total of over 7K (50% of the balance) in up to 3 monthly payments! Also says the offer may expire and to call before paying and to visit them online at http://www.ncofinancial.com with a unique registration code to use.
I don’t have any bad debt and everything is paid in full, so I don’t even know what they are talking about. No phone calls as yet, but thanks to this site I know how to handle them if and when they come. I will record the calls and inform them I am doing so and I will send a cease and desist letter by registered mail.
Thanks to this site and all of your comments I have the info I need to deal with this company.

Today I got the letter and found that
my old credit card number does not match my NCO Account #.
What should I do? Help!
It really bothers me!
