In case you are getting calls from the wonderful people at NCO Financial Systems. You should read some messages people have posted about this company. Apart from having to pay $1.5 million to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that it violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), there are also many many claims of state and federal violations of legislation like the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).

The company purchases old debt from people like your cellphone provider, hospitals and the government for pennies on the dollar and then tries to collect it. You may have even already paid the bill, like I had, but that is really a minor irrelevant point. The reality is, much if not most of this debt is so old noone has any obligation to repay any of it, least of all not to NCO. Many people have been harassed for debt belonging to neighbors, relatives, old residents of the same address, and co-workers. Don’t pay NCO a penny.

If you receive letters or phone calls from NCO or phone numbers like
800-709-8625 or 888-804-3488 or 877-803-8009 or 800-541-2742 or 888-688-7929 or 800-445-4918 or 866-569-8956 or 800-218-1175 or 800-448-9576 or 800-684-8429 or 866-429-3592 or 800-976-8307 or 877-871-6484 or 800-735-6588 or 800-220-1942 or 877-778-1799 or 800-227-4000 or 800-807-7809 or 866-626-9112 or 866-425-8131 or 800-967-4100 or 877-252-4534 or 877-202-9074 or 888-691-8955 or 888-259-3021 or 800-437-7403 or
800-383-4761 or 866-360-9791 you should read this page about the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. If NCO does anything wrong with you, you could be entitled to $1000 per infraction and they may have to pay your lawyer and possibly even your debt.

To halt their “contact”, send NCO a certified, return-receipt cease and desist letter (they throw away all faxes and non-certified letters). A sample letter might read (though, you must seek real legal advice, which I’m not):

This is to advise you that pursuant to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (“FDCPA”) 15 USC 1692c(c), you are hereby notified to immediately terminate any contact with me, or any members of my family or household, regarding any matter concerning the collection of a debt you allege is owed to your company or to your principal/customer/client. This notice shall include, but is not limited to written correspondence, as well as telephonic communication. This letter also verifies that I live at the address above, therefore, any further locator attempts would be a violation of the FDCPA.

Their address is:
NCO Financial Systems, Inc.
507 Prudential Rd
Horsham, PA 19044-2308

Is NCO calling you? Do you have a new NCO phone number or information? Please leave a comment and share it with the rest of us. Thanks!

NCO may or may not report your debt dispute with them on your credit report. It is important to make sure that if NCO puts anything on your credit report, all of the information is accurate, such as date of debt, last activity on account and the correct amount. That information is not always placed on all three major reports and your valid creditors usually only check one of these sources, so make sure you check all three (TransUnion, Equifax and Experian) for correct information. You should also check your credit score at these agencies to see the impact of your debt history on your credit-worthiness. Click to obtain a copy of your 3-in-1 Credit Report.

If NCO does not leave you alone, Lexington Law is an affordable legal tool to get them to stop calling and writing you. They are also very effective at deleting the negative information off of your credit reports.

For help fixing your credit report, you can reach Lexington Law at 877-699-5735.

Oh, and Miss Hill, thanks for calling ;)

Important! File a complaint with the Pennsylvania Attorney General – easy online form (NCO is a PA company and PA is investigating NCO)

P.S. The Pennsylvania Attorney General recently finished a big case against them, though the complaints continue.

My wife and I get calls constantly from them from these numbers which are not listed above:
866-576-1447
800-350-2457
410-202-0067
310-862-9083
They insist we owe them money as they are working on behalf of AMEX. Our AMEX account does not show any unusal activity, is paid every month and AMEX insists they did not give them our info. They have sent NOTHING in writing although they insist they do. They will not tell me what factual info about us they may or may not have and we refuse to tell them anything other than we will not discuss ANYTHING on the phone with them until we receive legitimate notice in the mail of any legitimate business they have with us. They have called co-workers, neighbors, family and friends and make it clear to all of them they are trying to collect a debt from us. Nothing seems to settle this. If anyone knows the names of the owner or chief officer of this company please let us know. I’ll track down his home info and contact him there directly and see if he wants to straighten this out or have me keep calling him until his compnay stops harrasing us.

getting anonymous calls, partial voice message asking to call “Mrs Roberts from 800 477 1827 for debt collection”. I purchased this new phone with new number from AT&T. Never had unpaid debt, was surprised listening to the voice message, kinda absurd, ludicrous, ridculous. Not sure why I’m getting called. I feel the frustration of fellow posters on this website.

Here’s an idea: someone gather all the NCO #s, post it on the comments and set a date & time. Every one of us will call the numbers, one after another, for a half hour straight. Just call & hang up when they answer. At least for one half hour on that one day, they won’t be able to make a single harassing phone call.

I received a notice from NCO Financial Systems yesterday. The number they provided me was 800-890-9401. They had a $2000+ debt notice. I believe that that debt was dismissed, as it never appeared on any of my previous credit reports as active. I called the number and attempted to tell the person on the telephone that I needed to check my credit report, and the legitimacy of their company before agreeing to repay the debt. The respondent on the phone told me that unless I agreed to pay the debt immediately, he would report me as having refused to pay the debt. I informed him that I had no intention of making any such agreement without checking the details first. He began to argue, so I hang up on him. I intend to look over my credit reports and get back to them on Monday if their claim is legitimate. Should I blow them off?

This company keeps calling my cell phone looking for my 21 year old daughter. she has NO debt to anyone but they won’t stop calling me and not telling me why — even though every time they tell me they will take my number from their list.

The number they call from is –

I received a call from a lady at NCO, and she asked for me by name. When I told her I was speaking, she asked me to verify my SSN and DOB. I politely refused, telling her, “I do not know what this call is concerning, and I will not give my information to a complete stranger. If you have my phone number, I assume you have my current address, and you are welcome to send me any information on the debt you are trying to collect on a company letterhead. I expect it to have specific information, including the original company, amount of debt (including fees, itemized), date(s) of service, my address at the time of service and my SSN, DOB, mother’s maiden name, my husband’s name, my favorite color, food, number — ANY information you have on me, feel free to send it, and I will happily resolve this debt.” To this she replied, “If you cannot verify your information to me then I cannot continue this call. Goodbye.” and hung up quickly. My husband wants to report them. :)

I have been getting calls from NCO for just about two months now. Ever since I switched phones, I have been receiving messages from these people. I live in BC, and wonder if the above mentioned letter would work for me. Due to my cautious nature, and the fact that I have no debt whatsoever, I do not answer calls from “unknown” callers, and have been deleting the voicemail which always follows. The number that they leave is 1-866-579-5912, along with a code.

I just got a call from these guys at my desk at work trying to talk to human resources saying that they are with revenue canada. When i told them that they would have to send an email they said they weren’t allowed to communicate via email since they work for the government and revenue canada. She said instead for me to take her info and email it myself to human resources for them to call back and left a ref#. leaving a ref# is smart, makes you think it’s legit….maybe I should start getting my cold callers to do that – maybe they’d get more call backs lol. They called from 519-346-2500 but left 866-579-5912 as the call back. what a bunch of con artist thieves.

I got a message for her, from an automated recording, giving a name of a contact, and stating the following: “This is an important message from Enfield Financial Systems, Incorporated, a debt-collection company. This is an attempt to collect a debt and any information obtained will be used for that purpose…” It repeated the message and then said: “when calling, please refer to your ID code..” consisting of 3 letters and 3 numbers.” The message was fully ‘automated’ and the number left to call was: 800/303-1043. The caller ID said this was NCO Financial. Googling their Enfield name shows up NCO. Thought this was a scam of some sort. Think I’ll ignore them.

I received a message, called them back. I never had to even give them my name. I asked who they were calling for. It was for someone we get a lot of collection calls for. Must have been that person’s number before it was mine. The guy was very nice, said he would remove my name. I never gave him any information, not even my first name. I hope they do remove it. If not, at least I know its not my debt and I have no problem letting the machine pick it up!

I have been receiving calls from this company for over a year. I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t answer them. The reason? I have requested at least once a week to have written proof of this debt mailed to me at my address. Have I received anything in writing from these jokers? Absolutely not. I have recently sent via certified return receipt mail, a letter requesting ALL information in a file that they have in regarding this so called debt. We’ll see what I get in return.

nco called me yesterday on a bill they claimed my wife owed. the woman identified herself as a debt collector period. never stated the company she represented. told me that i needed to pay this bill now! i informed her that i was not on my wife’s bank account and she would have to talk with her. i politely asked for her contact information which she refused to give me. she told me that she gave it to me last year and was sick of me telling her that i would call her back and not do so. i don’t recall ever talking to nco in the past. the number they called from was215-441-3000. i figured out that it was nco by the reverse directory on line. the women wouldn’t even tell me the company she represented just that i was suppose to pay her right now for a bill we don’t even remember owing. i have contacted and retained a attorney.

Received a voicemail from 800-897-0308 for the first time yesterday stating it was NCO Financial Systems attempting to collect a debt. They requested I return a call to that same number and speak with a “Lou Wallace” (possible spelling error, NCO rep later indicated it’s a female, and she’s a supervisor).

After researching, discovered I owe $67 and change to FedEx for taxes & duties on an international shipment I received from Germany last year.

Called FedEx up, paid them directly over the phone with a credit card that’s set to expire next month, and got a confirmation #. Called NCO using Google Voice and a rep named Erica (very polite, not pushy/aggressive in the slightest) looked me up in their records via my actual cell phone # (which I offered, as they already would’ve had it to leave the voicemail in the first place). She said I owed something like $75, I told her I’d already paid FedEx directly and had a confirmation # to prove it. She refreshed my account info, said “oh, looks like it was paid today” and said she closed it out for me.

We’ll see.

Didn’t seem too shady but it’s all a load of hype in the end. Use the tools available to you – Google Voice, bank checks or pre-paid credit/gift cards, social engineering. Be polite, but don’t take it lying down.

I am a former employee of NCO and you can call it aggressive Collectors, they never update this information with verizon wireless accounts nor their credit report was never updated. unless the debtor called in to request it. And as a representive there, customer called in and asked questions on why their credit report was not updated, and I could’nt answer that, I put the customer on hold and asked my supervisor why the customer credit report was not up dated and the the customer also wanted to know why and when would her credit report will be updated, my supervisor told me it will be updated on the 31st of November…and I could not tell the customer that, because her bill was paid…..

I’ve never banked with capital one and they keep trying to get my information! I’m sick of this! The numbers they’ve been calling me from are 757-990-8982 and 919-913-0968. They’re trying to scam me and god knows how many people they’ve already scammed! I looked online to see many many reports of fraudulent debt they claim to be collecting. I’m not giving my little bit of money to anyone I don’t owe anything to and poor innocent people shouldn’t have to be harassed like this.

Okay, NCO calls you to collect a debt, and you dont want to pay and you don’t want it on your credt–what ever shall you do? First, make sure it is you account without ID yourself. Just listen to the collector, and when you are sure it’s you, tell her you have attorney representing you—but don’t any more information. If she asks for a attorny contact information–just tell her your have attorney and hang up. Now, call back a week later, if your account is not on an attorney hold, then you just got yourself $1000.00–contact and attorney and sue them.

Larry,

If you refuse to provide attorney information, then collection agencies are under no obligations to do anything.

my daughter has been receiving debt collection calls on her cell phone for almost 2 years. she just told me that it is driving her up the wall. in any case they are attempting to collect from a person whom we don’t know. we tell them that the person doesn’t live here, we don’t know the person, and the phone they are calling is not that persons. It would be nice to talk to someone that would believe us when we tell them that the person isn’t at this end of the connection and that they have the wrong phone number.

Yes, it is a debt collection agency’s fault that you breached a legally binding contract with a creditor. I am simply in awe when I see these websites and comments. No creditor has ever forced anyone to use their services, it is voluntary. You made an agreement and didn’t honor it. It’s time to grow up and be accountable. Answer the phone, conduct yourself civilly, and you will find that you will be treated the same. Ignoring your responsibilities, complaining on the internet is not a solution.

Normally, I would agree with you, but when it isn’t your debt and they are still harassing you how is that right? I am being harassed because I got a random cell phone number when I bought a new plan. Evidently whoever had the number before had the debt problem, so now I either have to fork out more money to change my number of suffer with calls from NCO every week.

I agree with Joe. NCO called me. Because I had a debt. They were rude & ignorant, degrading, & demanding impossible terms from me. But I had a debt. I had a credit card. Racked it up. Then lost my job before I could pay it off. In three months I was charged an extra $400 in late fees. When I started working the following month, they wanted a $500 payment to bring the card current. It went to collections. I used my available funds to bring current a different bill. By the time my wallet was prepared to pay the balance of that one outstanding credit card, NCO owned it. Like I said, they weren’t very nice but…. they are me, they are you, they are us (unless you get calls from a rep with an Indian accent, I think they’re from India) the person calling from NCO is probably just some other average America, trying to do what gets them their paycheck. So I don’t blame the guy calling me. Why should he & I engage in a battle of words when we’re arguing over something benefiting the d-head in charge? Simply pay your bill, demand a payment plan, take their address & mail them a check every month til you pay it off. Then they’ll stop calling. (Of course, if you never had an account with them, I can understand, but there is always a way to solve the problem even if it requires a little leg work.)

I have been receiving calls from 1(800)373-7997 who claims to be NCO Financial. They are attempting to collect on a debt that I could not possibly owe as the company they claim the debt comes from went out of business before I was of legal age to enter into any financial contract (I would have been 11 years old). They have called me at least twelve times a day for a full week. When I stopped answering the phone I started receiving fifteen to twenty calls a day from a blocked number albeit no calls from any 800 number. After I enabled Anonymous Call Rejection I began to receive phone calls from the aforementioned 800 number.

I have been receiving calls from various numbers with a caller ID of NCO FIN SVC. They do not leave a voice mail. They will call 3-4 times per day. Most often they hang up after 2 rings, sometimes 3 before I can get to the phone.

I was finally able to reach someone today and ask why they keep calling and why they would not leave a message? Of course, I received no answer.

Upon giving them my telephone # to verify who they have been calling (after all they already have the #), I was asked if I have a Capital One credit card – which I do not!!! They then asked did I know someone name “Catherine”? No last name, huh… pretty common name don’t ya think???

Anyway, I was informed my # would be removed from the automated system, but that I may receive another call to verify the removal — imagine that??

I fear that this company may be a collection agency, but I wonder if they are also scam artists? or, is someone else scamming for information under their name???? Makes you wonder?? Please do not give out your personal information (e.g., SS#, bank acc’t #s, debtors, your legal name). Some of these calls may very well be an attempt to steal your identity.

I called the number, knowing I didn’t owe anything but, you never know with insurance/doctors, etc – and the guy on the other end wanted me to give him my phone number – I refused not knowing if this was a scam.

Got another call in a few days and they left a “code”. Called back and gave the reference number – the guy asked me if I was “Miguel Jimenez” or if I knew him. I am not Miguel – obviously, he gave my phone number and then defaulted on a debt – the guy said he would take my number off the auto-dial. We’ll see??

They sent me a letter with a unique registration code to use when I register and login to the site to pay with my debit card.
Thanks guys

NO it is not safe to pay on the NCO’s website. The only way I would pay these guys is with a cashiers check or money order! I would not take a chance on them getting ANY information on my bank or debit cards.

Yes, Everyone is out to get you!!! You better not give them the information that is CLEARLY VISABLE on your debit card and check. The same information you give to a shady looking teenager working at the gas station. Your logic is AIR TIGHT!!!

They called me this morning. It showed up as 215-441-3000 but they told me to call 866-613-4835. They said I had a bill from Georgia Power for $100 that dated back to 2009. I told them this was a fraud and a shakedown and they said have a good day and hung up on me.

Here’s another one: 800-249-2645.

I got a “robo call” a couple of weeks ago from “Eligibility Patient Advocacy Liaison”. The recording said “If you are Honey XXX press 1,” I did, but after several minutes on hold I got board and hung up. I have since received two messages on my voice mail and another one I answered (which I hung up on).

The messages say to call 800-249-2645 and left an account (?) number to reference. The messages said nothing about debts or collections; I got the impression it was some kind of advocacy group.

I was curious, so I Googled the phone number and discovered it’s NCO. Apparently “EPAL” is the department that collects medically related debts. Advocacy???? That’s an interesting choice of misnomer; it sounds friendly. Luckily, I am not friendly.

I was recently in a hospital ER. I received a statement from them with *zero* balance owed (I’m broke), pending financial evaluation. I have yet to hear from them about providing income verification. I also got one with a $500.00 balance from the ER doctor, but when I called his billing company to make payment arrangements they said they would look into what the hospital wrote off and get back to m about payments on any leftover balance.

I’m almost sure I got the first call from “EPAL” prior to getting the bill from the doctor, so it must be for the hospital. I just today found out that the friendly advocacy group is really a collection agency, so I will call the hospital on Monday to find out the true status my account.

These people are simply unreal. I don’t dispute the debt…well, actually I do. They’re calling to collect 482 bucks on a Citi Bank Card…however, I should not owe this debt. When I signed up for this card….I got the “insurance against the event that I became unemployed”….I notified CitiBank of my unemployment whithin 15 days of losing my job and instead of using that insurance option, they just started calling and calling trying to collect from me. Well, now this account has been passed off to NCO…these people have more freakin’ phone numbers than I can shake a stick at. They call up to 15 times a day – even twice on NEW YEAR’s DAY (thankfully this is my only bill!)…I did (For awhile) make it a point to talk to one of the calls once a day. When I ask them about this insurance that I supposedly had…the voice on the phone goes silent. I also get silence when I tell them that I’m unemployed and that I have no answers or money for them….finally 3 days ago …I very plainly and clearly stated “Please stop calling me. You may contact me by mail only. Thank you. ” And I hung up. The calls just kept on coming….seriously….I’ve gotten 7 calls today ALONE…..

Here are the numbers I have:

757-209-2055
703-656-9959
443-205-1056
323-372-6326
253-248-6405
757-990-8982
707-307-4222

…yes, every single one of these numbers is NCO Financial.

Wow…these folks are daft….I realize that the person on the phone is really just making a living and I kind of feel sorry for the goober that I just chewed out…sort of. This time, when I dialed back the number that has called me 5 times today (804-234-9071) I did not give them my name or account number. Instead I said:
“Ohhhh…it’s you people again. I guess I haven’t been very clear….I asked that you NOT call me. Anything that needs my attention on this matter can be handled by Postal Service. Apparently I have not been clear. Do Not Call My Cell Phone Number EVER. Thank you.”
“This call is about a Citi Bank credit card account…”
“Yes, I know. You have been calling repeatedly about it….from several different numbers which I have been keeping a log of. Nothing has changed. I am still unemployed. I still have no income. Citi Bank needs to activite the ‘insurance” that I signed up for in the event that I became unemployed…”

At this point…I get the same silence……for several seconds….so I say

“Gee…it’s the same silence I get every single time I speak with you folks. I have informed you – three times now – that I wish for you to stop calling me. Honestly, if I had the money I would pay this debt… At this point, you have violated the fair debt collections practices act at least 9 times since this past Friday when I asked that you stop calling…..although I imagine your company should be very used to paying fines for these kinds of infractions by now…you might want to look that up…but just in case they aren’t…I’ve reported you to the Pennsylvania State Attorney General’s Office….”

They hung up on me….hmmm…

Here is a number that calls my place of business everyday and leaves no voicemail. 1-888-831-6994. I have no clue who they are looking for, and when I call them back…no answer. I am in the CST zone and they start calling my business phone right at 8am. They do not call everyday, but it is at least 12 times since 12-1-10. The last call was 1-4-11 at 11:53am. I have not put myself on the DO NOT CALL yet since I am a business. I guess I will have to do it now.

NCO if you are reading this message, whoever you are looking for does NOT live at my business. I do NOT owe you any money!

Listen up.
I used to work for this company.
They will not sue you unless you are employed, never give them your place of employments’ phone number -tell them you are unemployed.
Also-if you never verify HIPPA when they call (verify your last 4 digits of your social or your date of birth) their calling system (automated) will only call back a certain number of times. Giving the wrong date of birth or wrong last 4 digits of your social is great too. REALLY THROWS THEM OFF.
Printing off a form letter you can find off the internet with a cease and desist, is also very helpful.

Just remember, it will not stop the original creditor from pursuing you on a valid debt.

They call my house at least 3 times a day beginning at 8am. They’re asking me to pay them for a debt turned in to them. Funny thing is, the company I owe the money to is one I have been making payments to faithfully and on time, as they send me a bill every month. Each bill shows my monthly payments. So why would I pay NCO too????? I told NCO they need to get with the company and figure it out between themselves and stop calling my house; that I have cancelled checks & statements proving they’ve accepted my payments. The person on NCO’s other end INSISTS I do not get a bill. Well I do, and I pay it. Period. I think there is a double-dip going on here. 877-652-4539

Here is the deal: NCO calls asking for money. First thing, tell them, “I am disputing the debt.” If they ask why? Tell them, no, you have to proof I owe the debt, and I am telling you I am disputing your alleged debt. Note the time and date and reference id of the alleged debt. Next: if you get another phone call asking for that debt before they can prove you owe the debt: you just won $1,000.00. Get a lawyer, let him handle it. And, they must by law report to the credit agencies they have reported your unpaid debt to: as a disputed account. So, instead of a debt on your credit, it will show up as a dispute.

They have a whole division working just on proofing you owe the bill. And they have to by law prove you owe it when you tell them, but you have to start by telling them:

I am disputing the alleged debt. That is the key to not paying bills.

Even if you think you owe the debt, they might have added on late charges or interest that you do not owe or don’t about about. And if they do indeed prove you owe it, just tell them you are disputing the proof.

The only way they can garnish your wages, is to go to court and file paperwork requesting a judgement. You will be notified that you need to go to court…and you can go before the judge and demand that the CA show you just how they justify the money they think you owe.

Here’s what the lawyer told me.
He gave me 2 steps to do before I file a lawsuit.

1. Contact NCO-if they give you too much run around(as ususal) or give you crap hang up.
Call NCO-they had 1, no 2 no 1 no they have no idea how many accounts they have on me. They didn’t post a payment I made(Ha-I have the receipt).

2. File A BBB complaint-just did that(all the good it will do.

Then you start contacting the AG in their state and yours.

I just got a letter from NCO today for a old emergency ambulance transport.($800)
In Mar 2006 i had a heart attack and drove to the VA hospital.
The VA put me on a a LA city fire department ambulance to UCLA for emergency angioplasty at UCLA.
A month later i got a bill from LA city EMS that i turned over to the VA fee bases office and they payed for the ambulance run.
Now in Dec 2010 i get this collection notice from NCO.

Luckly i never gave my phone number or home address and only my po box#

Now i am just waiting for NCO to make a mistake.
The next time i am at the VA i will double check that the bill was payed and get a copy.
Then if NCO continues to try to collect i will turn all the evidence over to the VA police and let them handle it.
In no way will i respond to the letter i got from NCO as by responding you confirm they have the right address and maybe restart the clock on the collection.
Plus i will never give them a phone call or answer any calls from them.
Everyone i know and get phone calls to my cell phone are in the memory of the phone and all other numbers i check on the Internet before calling back.

OH by the way after i was in the Navy i went to work for the navy as a navy security officer(NCIS) so NCO will find they bit off more then they can handle.
I plan to sucker them into a lawsuit if i can. i need the money to put in the bank as i live on disability.

Anyone returning a phone call to NCO should NEVER use there own phone.
they will use your phone call to collect phone numbers (caller ID) they can harass you at
And it just confirms you phone number for there records.
Using a pay phone may get them calling the payphone with there harassing calls
always call them back from a payphone.

The first time I got a call from an inarticulate waif who asked for my consort by name; when I asked who was calling, she gave the company name, but when I said that the person for whom she was calling was not in, she inyterrupted me before I had a chance to ask what the call was fors, and saying she’s call back, cut me off. Not knowing the angle, I reported it to the no-call list. Various other numbers appear (usually 800s), calls without messages; but this time I got a message for her, from a robotic-sounding recording, giving a name of a contact, and stating the following: “[Name of victim], this is an imprtant message from NCO Financial Systems, Incorporated, a debt-collection company. This is an attempt to collect a debt and any information obtained will be used for that purpose…” It repeated the message and then said: “when calling, please refer to your ID code..” consisting of 3 letters and 3 numbers.” The message was fully ‘automated’ and the number left to call was: 800/303-1043.

Excellent!!! This is what I have done. I went to Google voice and listed my cell and home phone. When they called I listed them as spam and clicked on Block Caller. Now they get the three tones and “this phone has been disconnected”. We have to counter act their tactic until it is no longer effective. You can use the Google Voice spam settings to list their number, they have many, and you never are bothered by the call. Answer a computer with a computer! Don’t let these people intimate you. If your loan defaulted and was written off, that’s it, case closed unless the loan originator received a court judgment. They get to write it off their books and improve their lending balance. I guess our wonderful politicians made it legal for them to then sell the paper to collection agencies which should be unlawful (getting write-off then income). If you have to talk to one of these Turkeys, tell them unless they have a contract signed by you, between their company and you, you’re not paying a cent. Yes they will start the very weak argument that you signed with credit card company etc,. and that now they bought the paper and therefore you owe them the debt etc., etc. Just tell tell them they have your condolences that they bought bad paper and that they do not have your permission to call you on this phone again! The very idea that I have to put up with this drib on a cell phone that I pay for the minutes. Besides my cell is my work phone. I had one to demand that I take him off speaker phone. My response: “Don’t tell me how to use my F**king equipment”! He said he couldn’t stand those things. “Fine it’s speaker phone or dial tone”! I’m just as impersonal as they are. It’s all about intimidation. Without it, they have nothing, zip, Nada, bump kiss. NCO called for 9 months until I sent a receipt requested-certified letter to their home office in PA. When they buy some more of my bad paper I’m sure they will start up again and I will spend another five bucks to get them off my back. If you are really mad and really want to stick it to them for not crossing their T’s and dotting their I’s, go to http://www.jurisdictionary.com/index.asp?refercode=GH0004 Some people are making money off these stupid people because they don’t follow the law that governs their own industry. Above all don’t ride the guilt trip. Trillions of our money are being spent very irresponsibly because someone wasn’t doing their job overseeing the mortgage industry. Will they have to pay back all the defaults?

I have been getting numerous calls per day from NCO Financial Systems and the phone number is 888-480-1534. It does not state who the message is for but it does state that they are a debt collection agency attempting to collect a debt and I must return the call to (a different name is given each time a message is left). In the message it also say, any information obtained, can be used for the collection purposes. I think this is just a scam because they are not able to say who the message is for and is just waiting for you to provide them with information so they can say that you owe them money.

Well my three year old debt to suntrust bank was sold to NCO earlier this year. Unlike all the stories above, they never harrassed or threatened me or even contacted me at all. I only found out about it when I checked my credit report after getting turned down for a car loan and saw they had been reporting for a couple months. I called them, paid my debt in full, and now have no negative remarks on my credit report: less than a week after paying NCO with my debit card there was a fradulent charge at an electronic retailer in NY. I have no proof or even reason to believe it was something to do with NCO, but I rarely use my card except for gas and an occasional paypal purchase.

Recently started getting persistent phone calls from these guys. Even if they hadn’t identified themselves as a collection agency, it was obvious! I was in the telemarketing field for many years, and even telemarketers dislike ‘collections’ TMs! They’re a unique breed!

However, all those years in the field also taught me to NEVER answer these type of phone calls. Once you establish a “connection” with them, they’ve got you. If they never talk to you, then they’ll keep on trying till they get you or eventually give up. They’re in it for the money; not to ruin your credit.

And it’s irrelevant to them if you’ve paid the debt, or don’t owe it, or aren’t the person they’re looking for. They’re doing their job (most of them get a ‘cut’ of what they manage to collect), and unless you specifically utter the words “Do Not Call”, they’re gonna keep on calling. One place I worked at would ‘recycle’ a phone number 50 times even after the call was dispositioned as ‘Not Interested’!

But these do guys get around ‘cuz here are some numbers I’ve recorded from the ID box . . .
4085385101 NCO

8885790626 NCO Financial

You listed all of the numbers that have been coming in on my cell phone. I changed the number in June…. I wish I would’ve stay 10 more mins. to keep my old number. Within days I started receiving calls for a man named Brent Wright. I DO NOT KNOW Brent Wright!!!!! I’m not covering for him and I have never met him. I’ve asked them four times to take my number off the list. Today within an hour of repeating the process to be removed, they called again. I have gone off on these people. I’ve called them back and asked for Brent Wright and when they say ‘I don’t know what your talking about’; I reply, “Neither do I! Please stop calling me and asking for him!” This is insane. So I called them again and asked what company it was, I was successful in staying calm. I told the collection agent I was reporting them but we all know they don’t care. I am not an anti-coorporation person but I can imagine the dark halls these people work in with money hungry management breathing down their necks. This company is sinister. Then I googled the name. I couldn’t believe what came up on these people. I reported them to PA Attorney General. I’m sure nothing will be done but will be pleasantly surprised if I get results. All I want is for them to stop harassing me about a person I don’t know. I don’t have credit issues. I strive to not have phone calls regarding mine or anyone else’s credit problems. This is pure harassment whether a person owes money or not. I don’t know how the people that work there sleep at night. Thanks for the information and letting people have a place to vent.

800-786-9330 on 11/18/2010 asked me for the last 4 # of SS and address.
I didn’t bite.
They said they have my address but would like me to give it to them to make sure it is correct.
I asked them to give me the address they have and I’ll tell them if its correct.
They didn’t like that. Said they legally can’t.
I asked them to send me a bill. They said they aren’t sure if they have the correct address. I said – try and send it, we shall see if I get it. Then we will know if it is correct.
They asked for my childs information as well, name and birthday. I didn’t bite.

NCO Financial Systems is nothing but a scam!! Do not listen to a word they’re saying. I got a letter in the mail saying they were collecting for on a debt for IDT Telecom.

I called them and they said it was for an account back in 2002!! I haven’t even been with IDT. Then I call IDT and gave them the “account number” that was on the letter….they had no record of that account or my name!

So I called up NCO Financial again and told them what I found out and to never send me anything ever again. They had the nerve to ask for my social! I said *** no and hung up. They are not legit!

NCO – Called me and left a message in the worst way, Rude , did not introduce himself( the person) I just wont answer. I dont take calls from people I am not aware of nor do I open mail from people I dont know.

I have had my share of these people and they are rude and it seems liek the company does not even take pride in training thier employees. Is this what this country is coming to? Write your congressman and demand a change and maybe they wil fire some of thyese rude people who should bnot be working in the public eye anyway. it does not speak good about any company.

Peopler like this should be on the other side so they know what its like to have your identity stolen and have an uneducated person threaten them and all you want to do is wring thier neckcs.

Speak up people . Do not stay silent its not fair.

Here is what everyone should do if receiving those harassments. Find out their Fax No. Write 2-3 copies of letter with really thick heavy black marker, so the whole page is heavy almost black, with your explanation. Fax it them 100-200 copies every day. Everyone should do it. They have more fax nombers , get them all. Everyone who they call daily should do it and let them have pleasure of receiving messages. They sure like that.

Do not let this company take advantage of you. First, they must follow certain guidelines as laid out by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. The rules are clear and specific. Know them and your rights.

Second, make sure that the debt is legitimate. Many debts go past the statute of limitations for your state.

Third, contact the FTC and file a complaint. Also, be sure to send them a “Cease and Desist” certified, make sure it’s certified, letter. The FTC is well aware of this company as evidenced here: http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2004/05/ncogroup.shtm

Fourth, contact your state’s Attorney General’s office and file a complaint.

Fifth, contact Penn. Attorney General’s office and file a complaint.

Sixth, contact the DOJ Attorney General’s office and lodge a complaint.

Seventh, if they continue to harass or destroy your credit you have other legal remedies to pursue. Any unfair practices that they use will cost them $1,000 per incident. http://www.creditinfocenter.com/eBooks/PoorMansClassActionLawsuit.shtml

NCO collection is the worst out there! They have called my brother’s in-laws asking to talk to me despite that I don’t live with them! How did they get their home number? How dare they calling my relatives, my employer and neighbors! My brother’s father in law just had a heart attack and needs rest but they kept calling his home and harassing him and his wife who is also ill! What do I do? I have mailed NCO several cease and desist letters instructing them not to call me and they have violated it to date! Please help me!

I finally got a call from a real person. When I asked where I could send payments to, she rudely told me she was going to get a supervisor. So Alan got on the phone and began asking me where I worked, who was my mortgage company etc and refused to give me a way to pay other that thier way. Thier way is for a post dated check I could have given him over the phone which I would not do. A payment arrangement via the mail system was not an available option.
I refused to tell them exactly where I worked, told them I was unable to give them any information to my checking account, and asked once again how I could make these payments. He referred me to friends and family and I had by noon tomorrow to call back with a payment or he was going to place this debt on my credit tomorrow. This of course was after he told me that if it was not paid by the end of the month it would go on my credit at that time.

I just got a letter from NCO financial services Inc. regarding a charge Bell made by mistake. This is not the first time Bell makes a mistake, and last time it took me 6 months to fix the problem. I talked to a person and she told me very rudely that it was my debt and I had to pay it. I asked her what could I do, and she said that I needed to talk to Bell and get a “Confirmation number”. Since I’m a veteran dealing with problems with Bell, I told her that Bell doesn’t give confirmation numbers. She insisted very sure of herself that they did and I asked what could I do if they didn’t give me that. She apparently was taken of her scheme by this because she kept insisting I needed to call them. I then called Bell and Will very nicely called them while I was on the line. In the three way conference call, I told her that Will on the line could confirm that the debt was being canceled, and SHE HUNG. Will tried calling them back and they answered and hung on him. After confirming everything was ok, I tried several times to call them to no avail. I will take your advice and send a desist letter before this escalates.

I seriously do not understand these people. They call, never leave messages and if I pick up they don’t say anything. It’s just silence. It’s just annoying as all hell anymore. I have NO, ZERO, NONE, NO DEBT. Unless these people are scouring MMO games I’ve canceled on or Xbox Live account my credit card got denied on or something I have no idea what back payment they want from me, I’m a college kid with a minimum limit credit card that essentially locks itself up the moment I get anywhere near said limit.

I have no debt, nothing. Seriously, they better pray to god that no person is ever on the line when I pick up or I will harass them to no end. Seriously they call everyday twice.

Another website said they scour Monster.com and other websites for phone numbers and they are just calling said numbers to confirm identities associated with number in case in the future you ever mess up your debt or something they know info associated with you. Its RIDICULOUS.

I have been receiving calls for the last week or so from NCO Financial and all they do is leave a phone number and a person to contact. I finally called today to speak to someone to get these calls stopped. I sat on hold for 35 minutes before “Abejail” got on the phone. I asked for the company address and she gave me the main address of: 507 Prudential Rd, Horsham PA 19044, which is listed on their website. She told me who the calls were for and I told her that person does not live here and I don’t know who they are. She said that she would remove my phone number from the call list, in fact, she said that she had already done so. She said that it could take 24-48 hours before it took affect. I asked her if that meant that I could sue for harrassment after 24-48 hours if I continue to receive calls and she said that was my right.
I have several phone numbers to add to your list:
1-866-576-8284 Randall Gun
1-800-273-6816 Sandra Thomas
1-888-480-1534 Jeff Price
I received harrassing phone calls from NCO several years ago and had to get my attorney after them to get them to stop…hope that doesn’t happen this time. But I will use the attorney if I have to and I will get money this time.

I too am being harassed by NCO, get this “as a Third party”. This has bee going on for several weeks now, everyday of the week. I started letting it go to the answering machine. Some of what they are saying is real garbbled but the call back number is very clear and rude. `-800-220-1942. One of the what ever they are that make the calls name is Patty Trice and another is Alaica or something like that. I too went online today to research them. Not too many people happy with them. I emailed the Penn. Attorney General. Maybe they will get back to me. I you are a “Third party” (not involved) don’t give them any information if you do know the person they are looking for. What they are doing is illegal. Perhaps we should all file a class action suit against NPO and their employees making the calls. That might get their attention.

I have received 3-4 calls from NCO for about 10 months for a TX-DOT account. Apparently the guy who bought my car 18 months ago ran a toll and hadn’t properly tagged the vehicle so the plates were still registered in my name. I have told them repeatedly that I sold the vehicle and I am not paying this guy’s toll. I have provided the documentation they have asked for (his name, phone number, copy of the Vehicle Transfer Notification) and they continue to call. I called again today and they now say they can not locate my number in their system, hard to believe since they just called it 10 minutes ago, and they have removed me from their call list. I find it hard to believe all I have to do is call and say I don’t owe them money and they will remove my number. I fully expect to keep getting calls and am so fed up I’m considering going to the media or at the very least the TX Atty General.

It is literally IMPOSSIBLE that I have any sort of debt. If they don’t stop calling me, I’m going to get some very important people to take legal action against them. I’m sick of it.

I have been dealing with them also. I have a medical bill that apparently was sent to collections when I was unable to pay on it. The initial call from NCO was a very rude man who asked for my SS # (I didn’t give it to him). I never answer robocalls, but I did call the number back and got a lady named Amanda who was actually halfway nice.

She said the debt was the recent one and something from five years ago that I was unable to pay. (Well, fine; but if it’s that old and I heard nothing about it, I would have assumed it was written off. ) I did send a payment of $40, but have not received an itemized proof of debt statement with EVERYTHING on it that I asked for, only an invoice that had just the recent thing on the back.

I think what I’m going to do is wait for the next statement and send a letter back Return Receipt Requested stating that until I receive my itemized statement for my records, I’m not sending any more money. I’ll call the recent one and see if I can make payments to them instead, because now I’m able to, small as they are.

I don’t know what else to do.

NCO calls my residence, 11 times in the past 10 days. Never states who they are calling for or the purpose of the call. An automated “on hold ” message states, “please stay on the line for the next…” This must be against calling laws for robocalls and tying up a persons phone line. This ties up my answering machine.

They must be spoofing the caller ID info, which is illegal, by the way.

They addressed the bill properly I understand they need to proove that I owe the money which I don’t since I don’t even have a card to charge that with. I live in Texas where as long as one party knows they are being recorded it is legal so I guess I am going to have some fun tomorrow and call them record them and see if they break any of these rules which will make them loose money because wouldn’t that just be great?

Told her I hadn’t had an account with that bank since 2000 and the bank froze my account and took out overdraft fees so I owe them nothing. When I told the lady that she said ” you know how the banks are, they keep charging you interest every day. Since your account was open in 2000( keep in mind now she already told me 2003) the bank will accept $485.00 and call it even. Then she told me it was up to me to prove the bank froze my account and got their money. I told her she had to prove they didn’t. Don’t let them bully you.

I just came home to find a recording on my machine from NCO Financial Systems Incorporated saying they were calling in regards to collecting a debt. The message was too long so the call back number was cut off. I came online to get the number because I couldn’t think of ANY outstanding debt that I would have but I wanted to get it taken care of. I found this website and a couple more similar saying how horrible NCO is. I was immediately put in defense mode as I searched out their website: http://www.ncogroup.com/. From this website, I navigated to: http://www.consumerhelpunit.org/ and I called the number provided there (866) 545-9262. It was relatively easy to get directed to a human being after listening to the recorded options and pressing nothing. I told the woman who answered why I was calling. She asked for the phone number I was called at. Fine, provided that to her. She asked the state I resided. Fine, provided that to her. She then gives me two names that may or may not be associated with the number and state I provided her. I said one of the names is mine, yes and the other I have never heard of. She asks for the last 4 of my SS# which I inititally declined to provide. I said I believed she was calling on a debt that was not mine and I wasn’t going to provide information to her if the debt was not legitimate. She said the debt is in regards to a Capital One account. I have never had a Capital One account that I know of. She said if she had the last 4 of my social she could see if it was in fact my name associated with the account. So I gave her my last 4 through gritted teeth. She said the numbers did NOT match and that it is not my debt. DUH. So why am I being called, I ask… She says MY NAME is associated with the PHONE NUMBER they called which apparently was PREVIOUSLY associated with the person to whom this debt belongs. SERIOUSLY? What a bunch of crap… So she SAYS she is removing my name and noting that it is not my debt and the phone number no longer is connected with the persons debt with Capital One. She SAYS I will no longer hear from them. We shall see. Good luck to all…. so glad I came here first to read so I was ready for a fight!!!!!! Grrrr!!!!

Just got my 3rd call of the day

215-441-3000

I have a legitimate debt, but these a-holes are something else!!!

First it goes to arbitration, I recieve a letter saying to wait for payment information…. no letter ever arrives
Second, I contact the company a year later so i can make payments only to find out they were going to bring it to arbitration again without me ever recieving any mail from them.
Third I start making payments…. it’s not making a dent as my interest rate was sky high… call to ask what it is after months of my balance getting higher only to have the guy go “wow, thats high” and take it off. Probably the only positive experience with this company.
Forth, I go months only recieving a call every couple of months….. and suddenly over the last month they are calling me on almost a daily basis on a debt that I’ve been faithfully paying for a year now and even manage to pay more than the monthly amount we agreed on.
This company has some serious issues, does anyone know who I can talk to to avoid them harrassing me?

NCO called from 800-728-3346, trying to collect on a debt that BG&E wrote off back in 2002. Once I got to a supervisor, she said that they had not purchased the debt — If that were true, why would they be calling to try to collect it?? It was from a tenant in a property that I still own, but the debt was from back in 2001.
I’m going to check and see, but since BG&E wrote it off already, I’m betting that I am not liable. Thanks to everyone and this website for all the info.

I to have been getting call from collections for several people that I don’t know. Finally got one of them to tell me the company that was calling and contacted them. Do have a cure although is can inconvenience some people. ! have an answering machine that has the capability to record your initial message (ie: Hi this is johns phone.) Search around the internet to find phone company messages until you find the one that goes “the number you dialed is no longer in service” preceded by three tones. Record that on your machine, wait 3 sec. then record the actual answering message. The three tones will cause all computer generated calls to hang up. Be sure to let everyone that calls you to hold on for a short interval. ( my mother in law thought I shut off the phone)

I have been receiving “unknown number” calls. I have no idea who NCO Financial Systems is or what debt they think they own. The v.mail is a recorded female caller, who since I do not pick up unknown number calls gets cut off in the v.mail. The message is to call “Alex Harkness” at 1-866-416-1426.

I have no outstanding debts. I reviewed my credit report (I use a monitoring service) and see NCO is not listed. I think this is an attempt at an old Book of the Month Club account that was settled 2 years ago (BOMC said I had books I didn’t, I called and all is 0.00).

Thank you for the posts and for letting us know NOT to call these people back.

I just however published some stuff for my mom on Craigs list using only my 1st name and my cell #. That was last night and I received my 1st call from these dicklickers this morning, coincidence…I don’t think so. I believe they are taking #’s off there because so many people are going through hard times and having to sell things and they think this is where to find people that owe money out.

Relative received a call where they were asking for one of my siblings. Person who answered informed them to contact sibling’s attorney and gave them my number. They call me asking to fax a copy of the POA papers before they will discuss anything with me. SORRY! I’m not about to send any legal document to anyone that will not disclose the nature of the business. I mean really, I had to go online and look up information to find out who these people are. So far, not good on their part.

To be honest, I do have a debt. I forgot about a cell phone bill that I’ve had for a while now with T-mobile, but I had put the bill on pause for about 3-4 years now. They don’t say anyone’s name in the automated message, but they say to call for debt collection.

Am I in serious trouble? What should I do?

Hi I have been harassed in Canada by what I believe to be the same NCO debt collector…I paid an accountant to do my books and they say I owe nothing but the calls persist 3 or 4 times a day with a recorded message.
Sometimes as late as 10 pm on a Saturday. I have called the number they leave and get a confusing maze of push 1 for this or 2 for that but cannot speak to a human. I have run trace call on the unavailable number that appears on the call display and recorded day date and time of all calls and will pursue legal action for harassment. However this requires some investment of time and money for legal fees. I Thought of an alternative solution… In Canada the toll free numbers are 866 579 5912 866 579 5915 866545 9191 866 545 9262 800 550 9619 I am sure that there is more that people can fill in.
What I suggest is that whenever someone is near a free phone they call and leave the line open. Long distance calls are not cheep. If enough people do this perhaps the company will change it’s business practices.

Nco is trying to collect on an ancient debt… The debt that this company is trying to collect on is no longer on my credit report! I have been recieving robo calls from this company for the past 3 days, today I received a bill from them on a debt that is over 10 years old! What is wrong with these people… someone should sue them. The recording says I should call back and contact Sanjay or Danjay Patak, fat chance!!

I just received a call to call Sally Way at 1-800-786-9330, I called back and ask for Sally Way and the man on the other end said did she leave a reference number. I said know and he wanted to know what number I was calling from, I gave him that he had my name and then ask for my birthdate and address. When I asked him to tell me what info he had he said it does not work that way and I said I don’t give out information as I don’t owe anyone. Next thing I know he said well then get off the phone so he can get some work done. This is my first call and I have no clue what it is about.

Another NCO number is 1-800-448-9570. Watch out for “supervisor” Tony Fuller. Very pushy, intimidating, obnoxious. This guy could really scare people if they were so inclined. Jason Chisolm (another of Tony’s colleagues) contacted acquaintances about me and lied — told them I gave him the number to call. Seriously? Why would a person give them numbers to obtain personal info? Tony thought I should be happy to talk to him as he is doing me a “favor”! He is saving me from myself and the debt I owe! I should speak nice to him. When I asked for direct phone and address he refused. When I told him I was recording him he was very upset and said he wouldn’t consent to being recorded, so I said neither do I. He threatened to call other people he has info on from my file. I filed a complaint with PA Attorney General, sent cease and desist letters and have retained legal counsel.

NCO likes to ring my cell and leave an automated call from “Gilbert Fernandez” with a return number of 866-506-2667. When one calls this number, it goes straight to an Indian line where super nice towelheads answer asking what your number and name is. When you decline to tell them and instead ask for GILBERT FERNANDEZ, you are shuffled here and there as they again ask for your name, phone, social, etc. The Indians finally admit there is NO Gilbert Fernandez, it’s all a ploy to get a call back. Then I hang up. Give it a try. They’re loads of fun!

My place of employment began to recieve phone calls regarding one of my employeees. I am a department manager and when I personally received one of these calls (leaving a message for my employee) I called the gentleman (Shawn Dailey) back to tell him directly to not call anymore, as this is a place of business. The gentleman (and that’s being VERY generous) got nasty with me and before I could tell him not to call anymore, we were disconnected. I was pretty sure he hung up on me, but I figured it was possible we could have been disconnected, so I called back. When I stated who I was, he yelled at me to not call him again! Unbelievable – he’s calling here, harrrassing my employee and then he yells at me not to call him anymore! When I called back for the 3rd time, he yelled that he would remove the number from the call list and again hung up on me. The call originated from the Atlanta area @ 866-257-1705. I did a quick internet search and came to this webpage. I called one of the posted numbers and the woman I spoke to was very nice and upon my request, she gave me another number for the Atlanta office (as the number above goes directly to Mr. Shawn Dailey). I followed up with a call to one of the supervisors and filed a formal complaint with him. I was put on hold while he submitted my complaint and I was told that a senior manager may call me back as a follow up, but I’m not holding my breath!

So it’s not even like they are after us . . . both my husband and I have told them there is no one here by that name and have gone through all of the automated ‘Press 4, Press 3′ things to get them to stop calling. They took our number ‘off the list’ . . . And they called today they where going to ‘transfer me’ to a consultant . . after waiting on hold for 10 mins the recorded voice came back to tell me everyone was busy and to call the office of Kevin Monroe and give them this code and yeah . . no thank you. They are annoying enough they call anywhere from 8am to 10pm . . . and it’s not even for us! Ugh! I hate stupid people.

I and my daughter both get calls from NCO. We hang up on the automated calls but the live ones we talk to I mess with. I get them mad instead of them getting me mad. I had a close relative that worked in collections. I mentioning this in relation to some people having other relatives or neighbors called by NCO about them. My relative told me that she could find anyone anywhere, find anyone’s phone number unlisted or not, find out their neighbors names and phone numbers and any other information she chose to find. She also said if a letter was written to them (collections) not to call the person’s home she had to stop calling because to continue calling would be harrassment and could result in charges against the company she worked for and her too. Work place calls was a no no but she had to call people’s work anyway until she was told by law enforcement to stop. She quit that job. What I’m getting at here is companies like NCO can get any information they want on you. You have no privacy. I had a collection company call me years ago. They would call my wife at home three and four times a day then call me at work three and four times a day. My boss put me in touch with The State Attorney’s office and charges was filed against the collection company. No more calls and the “alleged” debt was erased. That is the best thing to do with NCO. Everyone should contact the PA State Attorney’s Office and file a complaint. NCO is in PA. Enough complaints will stop them.

They’re calling a work number. No one here is behind on any debt, and even if so, we don’t discuss personal financial matters. Unless and until they leave the actual name of the person they’re trying to reach (and not likely since it’s always an automated message) there will be no return phone calls. Tons of fun.

NCO is clearly run by morons. I have been receiving recorded phone messages for them almost every day for YEARS. They are trying to reach former owners of the house I live in. The stupid thing is…anyone over the age of about 8 could enter my phone # in Google and see who the number belongs to. That person doesn’t live here! At one point I even called the return number they gave me and explained the situation, and they told me they would take my number off their list. No dice.

I’ve been receiving calls from NCO off and on for months. The calls are all for debt held by a neighbor of mine and not me. We both have the same street number but different apartment units. I’ve told at least two or three represenatives at NCO to remove my names but to no avail. Received an automated call from NCO this morning and the message said to call (800) 735-1998 and speak with Daniel Brown. When I called that number I got a message saying that the office was closed and to leave a message.

Had kind of a weird experience with them. Went shopping at Sears last month, and was offered an extra 10% off if I applied for a Sears MasterCard and put my purchases on that card. OK that sounded good, so I went ahead. The bill came in about a week ago, I paid it 4 days before it was due, and guess what, got a call from NCO, on behalf of Sears Financial. My husband took the call and hung up on them before the rep got through the spiel. Too bad, I would have liked to have heard what they would have to say to me. Ironically, I used to work for NCO

Thank you for all the information about this company.I received a call from them yesterday the first time and I`m glad I looked them up on your pages first before I started to call them back! Now I`m living OUTSIDE the USA -Berlin,Germany and I`m absolutly not confirm about how your system works and I never had to deal with somethings like this because we here in Germany dont have things like that!I feel afraid that I could do something wrong which would have a bad consequence on me or my family. The only thing right to do at my view would be to just not call them back and never deal with them. But what am I doing if my son picks up the phone accidently with them on the line?I feel scared about people like that bothering me for a long time!I never ever had that happen to me.What can I do with my poor english to keep them off my back?Remember-I dont know about your system about the ways to pay things and so on,And I am outside the states!Would there be anybody to be able to give me advice?I would deeply appreciate it!Thank you.

Karen,

You can send a cease and desist letter; make sure you send and make copies, both in German and English. Make sure to make a notation that their practices may violate Directive 95/46/EC and Article 8 of ECHR. Make sure that you also notate that any information received from them (NCO) that indicates that those directives were violated, will result in legal action. (Again, I suggest you find a lawyer.)

The hardest part will be sending the letter via certified mail, so I would seek the assistance of a lawyer – under U.S. law, a cease and desist letter can only be proven by receipt. In DE, the laws may be different, but it’s generally accepted, if you’ve made a “good faith” effort, on your part.

This law firm may be able to help, as they speak both DE and EN, and you’re an EU citizen: http://www.winheller.com/de/startseite.html

I would NOT call them back, under any circumstances, as toll-free lines do not apply to international calls. If they continue to call, you may be able to have your lawyer draft a letter and send them notice that you plan to pursue legal action, in German court, if they do not cease; you should have the lawyer notate that the suit would include the costs of all communicae, since you’re, obviously, not a U.S. citizen.

I wouldn’t fret over it, too much, since EU citizens have more privacy laws, than the U.S. Just be sure to get serious about this, now, because this is an international issue and not domestic, and NCO will have a problem recognizing that they made an error.

Hope this helps!

I just spoke with 2 “men” from NCO who sounded like the same person. They were absolutely rude, called me names. even said Nope! when I asked to speak with someone else. They kept threatening me with “legal action” when I asked them to explain what “legal action” would be taken, they got smart with me and said “You don’t know what legal action is?!” I was like “DO YOU?!” and they kept repeating what they already said. Neither could explain what “legal action” would be taken. The call went on for a while, but during the call, I was told that I was immature and irresponsible for not paying my bills (told them they are not allowed to talk to me like that, they said they can talk to me however they want) and that I don’t listen and even told me to “shut my talking” (i’m guessing shut up?!) I cant take it anymore. I owe Capital One, and I’m aware. It’s not even a big amount and I am a responsible person, who ONLY called this number back after the 500 million zillionth time they called because I was working on coming up with the finances to pay off my debt. I was willing to work with them, professionally, but they started off with all the wrong things. I told the guy I do not know anything about your company, so you can’t demand information from me without explaining who you are. He says – you tell me what I ask you, then I tell you more. Um, no? The first 20 min of the call was arguing about giving him my social security number. Why on EARTH would I be so stupid? Then he gave me my account number, home phone and address, then asked again for my social. I was like “you know who I am, apparently. I’m not giving you or anybody else my SSN” He said fine, I cannot help you. I said Okay. and THEN he continued the call as if that never happened. I have a bunch of numbers for this place. They call from local area codes now. Sometimes I get 1-800, some 1-888, and recently i get local area code phone numbers. None of the 1-800 or 1-888 numbers they leave for me work when I call back. They’re always disconnected. Is this company legit? I want to file something against them. I’m extremely upset. I’m writing to Capital One now to tell them I want to pay my debt to them, but refuse to deal with these scumbags. They ruined my evening.

This group of malefactors has attemted to usurped unearned money from my paycheck, witch I am currently disputing it. They keep on harassing me, and is causing mental and family problems. I have a wife and a little girl, but hey these a**whipes don’t care, so we have to force them to care about the rights of others.

I have a new NCO number for you 1-800-273-6816. They have been calling my daughter, who is a minor and now have sent her a letter stating that they are collecting a debt she owes to Sears. The amount of the supposed debt is $3041.32 and the interest amount is $4919.90. I am reporting them as this is fraud!!

I got contacted by NCO awhile back and it was constant, a couple times a day. Then they stopped. Then it started again, same recorded message, different name of person to contact. I got these calls several times a day on my cell. I kept ignoring the calls and eventually put my number on the Do Not Call list and reported them on the form at the DNC site. One of the things I saw on the form (and reported) was that they were using a recorded message. I didn’t know that was wrong, but I guess it is. Finally that phone number stopped calling, but now there’s a new number trying to contact me. Same message, different number, different contact person.

I don’t have any medical debts. I have never had a credit card in my name. The only debts I’ve ever had were my car and student loans and I am current on both. Is there anything else I can do to make this stop?

Guys you know this site is using you.. they are just offering their own business which they say can handle this problem. (not true) best option is to deal directly to the company who is dealing with your account, ask them if they have other plans or hardship programs that can help you. This site collects bad experiences from NCO, but see how many people put comments on this site? (1640) there are millions of peaople that nco was able to help, and I am one of them. They settled my account just for 30%. Before, they freeze my account from adding late fees into it . They said it was a special plan payment, much lower than the minimum amounts I am paying before. Think not twice but million times (NCO DOES HELP!)

I love when NCO employees leave comments. Yes… NCO helps… themselves…

(and now the NCO employee is going to deny that he is an NCO employee)

30 percent huh?
I guess maybe you’re one of the debtors who had an account that was way out of the Statute Of Limitations.
Coz they sure as hell refuse to work with me in any way whatsoever.
They might need to get a new auto-dialer, coz they’re sure WEARING OUT the one they use to call me with my daily ‘greeting’…
If you think NCO is your friend and helps millions of people, then you’re a LOSER just like they are!

“This is NCO Financial, a debt collection company. Any information gathered will be used for that purpose, blase blase blase yadda yadda… Call KEVIN MONROE back today! At 800-711-0454.” Then it hangs up.
I get these stoopit freaking recorded messages EVERY SINGLE freaking day (except Sunday) Every day! This latest barrage of calls has been going on for nearly a month now.
I tried to call and talk to Kevin Monroe. Is he a ghost? I’ve NEVER been able to talk to him. Only his assistant (whatever that is).
So go ahead, NCO Financial – you’re freaking WASTING YOUR TIME with me.
I’ve already told you NUMEROUS times why you’re NOT getting that money for someone else.
Give it up, LOSER. LOSER. LOSER. LOSER.

I’m writing this due to the fact that I’m being harassed daily by this company , they start calling at 8:00 am and do noty stop until 9:00 pm, and today 7-20-2010 I received a call from my neighbor who has a restricted phone # and this company called her, very very rude telling her she knows exactly who I am.This gentlemen was extremly rude to her. She was very upset over this phone call and called me. When I called them back they demanded 258.00 from me today and I do not have it. they wanted my bank information. When I asked how they knew my neighbor ( when I don’t even have her phone # ) they would not answer me. they claim they will keep calling her for 48 hours and she has nothing to do with me. They are harassing me and her. I’m enrolled in Care One a debt counseling company to help me. People have had this problem with this company and they have received a settlement. I’m being harassed by this company. If NCO does anything wrong with you, you could be entitled to $1000 per infraction and they may have to pay your lawyer and possibly even your debt

I have had the Pleasure of dealing with NCO ( sarcasm) This is what I have learned and maybe it might help you also. I myself have suffered a job loss like many other hard working Americans in the recent years. I had a credit card through Citi with a fairly low balance, when things got hard my payments lapsed in order to pay for basic services my family needed to survive. So I get a call from NCO automated of course I just hang up because I feel if you cant take the time to have a live person talk to me I guess it’s not that important. I had to deal with NCO 7 years ago on an alleged ” key word Alleged” Sears card that was 9 years old at the time. I explained I had a Sears card but the balance was paid in full. They “NCO” told me that they are attempting to collect a debt. At this point I told them it “credit card” is past the statue of limitations and can not be legally collected. They argued with me, all I had to do was contact the credit reporting agencies; they can remove old or past statutes of limitation debt. Forwarding to a week ago I received a call from NCO, I called them back and spoke with a representative there, she sounded fairly uneducated, She said (Q.)-What are you planning to do with this debt! So first thing a person like myself should do and say (A.) What debt I have no knowledge of the so called debt! Never admit to the debt until you absolutely have to do so. She explained she could offer me this amazing settlement on this credit card. I explained that they need to send me this writing via US Postal Service, they ” NCO” wants to send it via Email or Fax ! DO NOT let them do that because it will not hold up in court as a legal document because the defense or prosecution can claim it was altered. I explained that any correspondence must be made by postal service and allow time for delivery and review. This is where you see the nice I want to help you attitude turn into Insults and intimidation. Ok at this point they “ NCO” are attempting to and hoping that you become upset and will let your emotions cloud your judgment. Stay Calm these are Inciters they use, they will make statements that will get you upset but keep your poker face on. Say to the calmly Excuse me you do not need to talk to me that way or make comments that have no Bearing on this issue. At this point they tend to start raising there voices making additional comments such as It’s the law or The law say’s, At this point stop them and ask Are you authorized within your company to be making statements of the law and its procedures and are you a licensed attorney in your state to practice or have knowledge of legal proceedings or procedures. Remember they are recording you so if you do go to court those tapes can and will be subpoenaed. They “ NCO” will get frustrated because there tactics did not work and they usually hang up on you. Needless to say I’m still fighting with them. You can have debt validation done but the only thing that in fact validates a debt is the original contract. All debt validation to me is that your social security number and name is associated with a reported account at a collection company. It has not been validated until you see that original document “ original photo copy “

NCO’s automated call system has also been calling me for the past few days. They wanted me to call Karen Anderson at 1-800-685-4343. When I was able to call I heard a rough message from Ms. Anderson but could not leave one for her because her mailbox was full. Another automated call came through this (Saturday) morning. I called and learned that they were attempting to collect a debt from someone else. I told them that no one by that name is at this number. The woman who had answered said that I will be removed from their calling list. Thank you all for the information about them, which I was able to read before calling them.

Have any of you people figured out by now that their mailboxes are ALWAYS full? And will ALWAYS be full? And not just NCO, but (so far) every single call I’ve returned I get the same response – “The person at the extension you called mailbox is full.” So? What good is voice mail that is apparently NOT used? It’s just a front so they can capture any other phone number(s) you might happen to call them from.
Why, you ask?
Coz they would rather talk to you at THEIR convenience, not yours!
Just remember, they will call and call and call and call and call and call and call and call and call till HELL FREEZES OVER.
It’s not getting any colder, you know……………….. ..and I still just hang up on them. I’m under NO obligation to talk to any of these IDIOTS.

Wow I am so glad I looked this company up. Today is the first day of having to deal with NCO, and frankly it started out fine. “Alex” seemed genuinely concerned about helping us with our delinquint citibank debt. Oh and just to let all of you know, I always Tape all my conversations with ANY business/debt collector etc…just in case. I inform them ahead of time, as they always do and if they say the do not authorize being recorded I tell them too that I also wish not to be recorded, yet want to work out the situation so they better call me back on a phone without a recorder. sometimes they do sometimes they dont, NCO was fine with this. When it reached the point where Alex started talking about certain things on our credit report that my husband and I had applied for, I hit the roof! I told him he had NO legal authority to veiw my or my husbands credit report WITHOUT our permission (wether that is tru or not i dont know)
and Boy! talk about the wolf in sheep clothing! He started in on the you owe this and that and they want their money ete….!!! Then, right in the middle of it for some reason I completely broke down crying. I was crying so hard I couldnt speak for a few minutes, then finally telling him I cant talk anymore right now i have to go, do you know he could care less about my crying and continue to talk, then told me to hold while he went and got his manger Brian. He put me on hold and I hung up. I am scared to death about what these people can do, anymore advice about who to talk to about this and our fincial problems with citibank would be so apprecitative.

You are never under any obligation to speak with any of these scum-sucking morons.
I generally explain my sitch (it’s pretty bad financially) to them in a nice way and ask if I can make a Settlement Payout over time.
NOPE. NEVER. NOBODY DOES THAT. YOU MUST PAY THIS NOW!
Fine. I hang up on their stoopit ass.
And continue to hang up on their stoopit ass.
And will always hang up on their stoopit ass.
They care not about anything, other than getting YOU (and me) to make payments to them on the FULL balance. Anything else just doesn’t enter into it. They’re COLD BLOODED bottom-feeders.
That, my friend, is THEIR bottom line.

Do you folks enjoy a good read?

Try: http://www.ethannonsequitur.com/nco-financial-systems.html/comment-page-8#comment-45875 . Was just wondering how unpleasant people (bottom-feeders) in your “profession” get up in morning and look in the mirror. Got to be a better way to make a buck… certainly Al-Qaeda (or al-Qa’ida) is looking for a few good men and women today.

P.S. Suggest that readers subjected to unwarranted calls from NCO send a formal complaint to their state’s attorney general.

NCO’s automated call system has been calling me for the past couple of days (phone # is 866-870-8314). They are (were) attempting to collect a debt from some other person. I told them it is not me and to stop calling. The rather unpleasant-fast-talking man (a debt collector) who took my return call said my # was removed from their data base. We will see.

OBTW, thanks for the written recommendation should the NCO calls continue.
